Navigating application migrations in an ever-changing technical environment
Building your environment using this cool architecture and that cool framework can be simple enough, as you start from scratch, but in a larger organisation, this is rarely the case. Most of the time, there are a lot of moving parts, you need to plan this migration carefully and take into account not only your own application's inner workings, but also other services that you consume or consume you. This session goes through some of the challenges we've faced throughout the years at ING Hubs Romania and how we overcame them. Tips&tricks included!
Target languages: Java, Frameworks: Spring
Target infrastructure: VMs, Internal cloud, Kubernetes
Target audience: Software engineers & architects
Preferred session duration: 30+ minutes + 5+ minutes for questions.
First public delivery at internal events of ING Hubs Romania
Improving the performance of a SpringBoot Web application
Performance of web apps is often only about scaling, resources, network speed, but we rarely think about going deeper, into the code and frameworks we use.
This workshop focuses on a step by step refactoring of a plain Spring-based web API towards an async, highly performant API. We will also explore how to test if the API has really improved, different libraries or approaches that can be used further.
Target audience: Java/JVM developers, Spring-focused
Preferred session duration: 1hr + 15-30 mins open discussion and questions
Technical requirements: projector/screen and participants can bring their own laptop, code will be available on Github
