Barriers impacting ethnically diverse women entering NFT-land
Women have accounted for 16% of NFT artists and 4% of total NFT buyers globally since February 2020.
There are fewer people of colour and even fewer women of colour.
Imposter syndrome and a lack of awareness/ education are barriers to entry for many women.
When it comes to ethnically diverse women, factors rooted in the complexity of culture and identity add to this barrier.
Our own individual journeys into NFTs led us to creating Gold Bangle Club to break down the barriers and make the space more accessible to South Asian women.
Our session at NFT NYC London will aim to:
- Uncover barriers, including cultural influence, gender norms and societal expectations
- Explore how NFT projects can overcome these barriers
- Explore the role of the ally to increase diversity in NFTs
- Q&A
Allyship in the NFT Community
Launching an NFT project requires more than great art & utility. Project leaders need strategic partners & access to capital. But tapping social networks can be tough for women in a space where men make-up 77% of NFT art sales. Segregated networks make it even harder for women of color, as white Americans have networks that are 93% white & 75% of white Americans have entirely white networks. This session is for anyone who wants to be an ally to underrepresented communities in the NFT community.
