I am a passionate Software Engineer that enjoys empowering other people to do great things. My desire is to give others the same opportunities I had when I started my career. My love for software development started at a early age when entering LOGO commands to a turtle on a yellow and black screen. Currently working at SouthState Bank as a Software Engineer solving complex problems and helping Business Units achieve their goals through custom software.

Embed PowerFX in .NET

Microsoft released PowerFX as open source a few years ago. PowerFX is the language that powers PowerApps. It is a declarative language similar to Excel formulas. Microsoft has provided some sample implementations in Gitub that can be used to run PowerFX calculations from .NET applications. This opens the possibility to interpret formulas entered by Business Users inside your custom .NET application. This session will introduce and dissect a C# application that uses PowerFX to run formulas.

Azure Logic Apps Introduction

Do you have to expose some SQL logic via API? Or do you need to integrate various systems from different vendors? Do you prefer not to code the integration by hand or to allow entry level devs to create and maintain the integration? Azure Logic Apps might be the solution for you. Azure Logic Apps facilitates integrating systems without knowing how to code (well, except for maybe JSON). This session will introduce the steps to create a logic app using the Visual Designer. We will demonstrate how to test your logic app. We will go over a brief explanation of the different engines available for logic apps. We will offer tips on tricks when developing the logic app and how to use Azure APIM to expose the app to consumers. We will discuss how having a platform for integration can be beneficial in the long term when onboarding new developers or business people who want to get into the world of Software Development.

Build APIs with just SQL, JSON and Azure

Are you mainly a SQL Developer? Do you need to build and expose APIs for interna or external customers but do not have the time to learn .NET, Java or Python? Come to this session and you will get introduced to a way to build and expose APIs that can be consumed from the Internet using only your SQL skills and some Visual Azure goodness. We will introduce the integration between Azure Logic Apps, Azure API Management, Azure Entra ID and SQL server. We will also explore ways to structure your API responses using the native JSON support in SQL Server. The sessions will go over an example that simulates a real-world API with real-world requirements such as Authentication, Rate limiting and Request validation and other API requirements.

VisualStudio SQL Server Projects for Devs

SQL server is a great engine for the data that powers modern apps. This session is an introduction to Visual Studio SQL Projects. VS SQL Projects allows developers to define their application’s database as a Visual Studio project in a declarative way, no manual migration needed! The SQL Project model allows safe and easy database deployments, both from VS and also from CI/CD pipelines. We will go over the structure of a SQL Server Project and tips and tricks for building databases that are true data services instead of simple data storage spaces. Custom SQL types, automated tests, source control, and CI/CD pipelines via GitHub actions will be presented as time allows.

Intro to calling APIs from the Power Platform

A gentle and beginner-friendly introduction to calling APIs from Power Platform. We will go over different ways to call an external API from the PowerPlatform, including:

1. Building a raw HTTP request using the HTTP action
2. Authenticating against APIs
3. Use API connector
4. Use Azure APIM to reduce the complexity of calling APIs from power platform

We will go over a variety of examples including using Oauth flows, subscription keys, mTLS (via APIM), transforming SOAP Xml to Json (via APIM) and other basic transformations using Azure APIM policies.
