Learn how to use Lakehouse, Synapse, and Power BI in 60 mins

This session is the lessons and best practices learned by implementing the Lakehouse, Synapse and Power BI for organizations. I've been developing and building these solutions for over 5 years.

This session focuses on why organizations would want to use this pattern in infrastructure. We will cover topics such as differences between a SQL DW and Lakehouse, partitioning implications, and the use of Delta tables. All of these are built upon the time-tested Enterprise Data Warehouse but are implemented differently as we move data systems into the cloud.

Explicit Measures - AMA

Join the personalities behind the Explicit Measures podcast, Tommy Puglia, Mike Carlo and Seth Bauer in this table talk session. We'll give a little synopsis of who we are and what the "Explicit Measures" is all about, and then dive into any Power BI questions you may have, or any other topic! We like to have fun, and hope that you'll join us in a conversation that is always bound to have a few laughs, learnings and thought provoking concepts.

Work Smarter Not Harder - Using Visual Templates in Power BI Reports

While Power BI is an incredible tool, there is the need to build repeated visuals and pages over and over. This session highlights the most productive techniques to increase development speed. Building reports can be greatly by designing Scrims, and Layouts as well as using visual templates.

Not only will these techniques increase your development speed, but your reports will have a new level of polish and professionalism.

Session will be filled with real time demos and illustrations showing how to build scrims and layouts.

Ask me anything with Explicit Measures

This is an ask me anything format for Mike Carlo, Seth Bauer and Tommy Puglia the creators of the Explicit Measures podcast

Must have Custom Visuals for Power BI

A whirl wind tour of the top two custom visuals: charticulator and deneb projects.

Charticulator all the things!

Deep dive into the charticulator custom visual. We learn how this fits into the power bi ecosystem. The custom visual space has a wide range of low to full code solutions. Learn where charticulator fits and how to get started. Session will review the basic principles of creating highly custom visuals In charticulator. Learn step by step how to build visuals in this amazing app.

Power BI Visuals 101

This session focus on covering the basics of beginning to work with Power BI visuals. We touch on the process of taking business requirements all the way to creating visuals in Power BI.

Additionally, we cover the different types of visuals, from basic visuals like bar charts all the way to advanced analytics using forecasting in a Line Chart, or using the Decomposition tree.

Finally we discuss how to extend the experience of loading custom visuals from the Microsoft App Source and when users would want to use custom visuals vs. the built-in visuals from Microsoft.

Users should have a basic knowledge about Power BI desktop. Users should know what a Measure is and how to create a basic visual.

Target audience is for users who are new to Power BI and need an overview and introduction to building visuals for a Power BI report.

World's Fastest DAX - Using Quick DAX Templates for Power BI

DAX is easy to Learn but hard to master.

This session is all about using the Growing Community Driven Library of Quick DAX Templates. Learn how to find the templates and use them in your daily workflow to drastically speed up your Data Modeling Experience.

Session Covers the following topics:
1. Introduces the concept of Templatized DAX
2. Consuming a Quick DAX Template using Power BI External Tools
3. Discusses how to create your own templates and use them

Multiple Demos of working directly inside the tooling for consuming and creating Quick DAX Templates.

Intoduction to Deneb

You've heard of Charticulator, welcome to the next level in visual development in Power BI, DENEB. A custom visual that has been developed my the MVP Daniel Marsh-Patrick. This visual builds on the robust data framework of Vega and Vega-lite. Daniel brings this powerful visual grammar language to Power BI.

Learn about how to get started with Deneb in this informative and mind blowing session.

Must be comfortable with using visuals in Power BI. Session will use lots of JSON code to build visuals using the DENEB visual. Be sure you are comfortable reading JSON file formats.

Mo Data No Problems - Incremental Refresh in Power BI

You have lots of data, well Power BI can handle it. Build efficient loading data models by using Incremental Refresh in Power BI.

While setting up incremental refresh is easy, what is happening in Power BI.com is more of a mystery. This session does a deep dive into what happens when you are incrementally refreshing datasets.

This will be a technical dive in to Power BI Incremental refresh using SSMS, SQL Profiler, and Tabular Editor 3

Attendees will walk away with a complete understanding of the Incremental refresh set up within Power BI. Then a technical understanding of what happens at the Analysis services side inside PowerBI.com.

Very technical session on Incremental refresh. Must have knowledge of using SSMS, SQL Profiler, and Experience with Tabular Editor 3

Pre-Con Learning Charticulator and Deneb

This full day session is about learning how to use the custom visuals Charticulator and Deneb. These visuals bring a higher level of capability to Power BI. Standard visuals provide a limited amount of visual building flexibility. The added capabilities for advanced visual building are essential for every Power BI developer.

Users will walk away with the following lessons:
1. What is a low code custom visual
2. When to choose between charticulator and deneb for custom visuals
3. The basics of loading and building simple charts in both charticulator and deneb
4. Exercises on the "Art of the Possible" when working with Charticulator and Deneb

Power BI allows you to enhance your reports with incredibly capable custom visuals, Charticulator and Deneb. Learn about how and where to use these visuals effectively in your reports.

The fabric Bonanza!

Users should understand basic concepts of Git, check-in, branches and main branch. Users should have a basic understanding of Visual Studio Code which is heavily used within the demos.

Report Building at Light Speed - Wireframes & Themes

As you think about building Power BI reports, there is so much time needed to stylize to create a stunning looking report. Wouldn't it be nice to build reports faster with more precision.

This is a fun demo heavy session about how to create wireframes of Power BI reports with themed properties. The worlds best theme generator has evolved to now build entire reports!

Come watch how easy it is to build reports using Wireframes.

Topics covered within this session
- Basics of the report building process
- Basics of creating Scrims "Backgrounds" for your report
- Rapid prototyping of reports using Wireframes

Direct Lake & the Default Semantic Model

Fabric has introduced many new features to the business developer of data. This session focuses on using fabric pipelines, to load data, transform data using fabric data flows gen2, and adjusting the default semantic model to produce a seamless flow data, from source to reports.

users should be familiar with the fabric pipeline build process, dataflow process and working with modeling in the web.

session will be demo heavy showing users how to build directly in fabric.

Using Co-pilot in Dataflows Gen2

Users in this session will see a live demo of working with Co-pilot directly inside Dataflows Gen2. Observe patterns that can be used to interact with the Power Query engine enabling features such as code documentation, stringing commands together, writing custom functions.

Users should understand co-pilot and that is can be used within Power Query online.

Users will need to have a basic understand of Dataflows Gen2 as developed in fabric.

Fast Fire Demo Semantic Link

Data models contain information that many users need to expose, from data scientists, data engineers or admins. The semantic link feature is used to extract information from the semantic models in power bi premium.

This demo focuses on patterns that enable extraction of data from the semantic model. Executions of Exploring relationships within a semantic model, Summarizing data quality issues, and calculating measures within a notebook will be shown in the demo.

Users will learn the following from the demo

Running a notebook in fabric and using code samples to do the following:

- Explore the data model
- look at data quality issues within the model
- execute measures from a semantic model and turn into notebook dataframe
