Oracle Databases on Kubernetes

Using operators in Kubernetes, you can easily deploy and manage an Oracle database on a Kubernetes cluster. Why could you want this? How do you do it? Which features do those operators provide? How is it portable between the native Kubernetes cloud services offered by OCI, GCP, AWS, and on-premises deployments? How are they
suitable for production workloads?

This session will answer all those questions (or will try!) by exploring the basics of Kubernetes, the implications of running an Oracle database on it, how to do it, and experiences testing the operators for Kubernetes in GCP, AWS, and OCI.

Demos of the main features will be done using OCI and local deployments, including some of the latest ones, as the OraOperator has had several releases since its creation a few years ago.

Oracle Databases on Google Cloud Platform - Deep dive

In June 2024, Oracle and Google announced the agreement to allow Oracle databases to run on the Google Cloud Platform (GCP), called "Oracle Database @ Google Cloud".
This session explores the new and existing Oracle services in GCP, covering all the possibilities of using an Oracle database on GCP, and their differences.

Attendees will learn the alternatives to using Oracle on Google Cloud, the technical details for using them, and the benefits of each one to decide which one to choose.

Session Agenda:
- announcement details
- impact on existing services
- details of each Oracle Database service on GCP
- live demo provisioning and exploring ADB@GCP service (screenshots in case of lack of internet)
- summary of more things to explore not covered here

Oracle AI features for DBAs

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the hot topic in technology, and Oracle is following that trend, having launched several new OCI services and AI-related Oracle Database features in recent years.

This session explores these new services and features, covering the concepts with concrete examples, looking at how database administrators can apply them in their daily work and be more productive, and evaluating their impact compared to traditional approaches.

Examples of topics included:
- Database Performance Management
- Coding SQL, PL/SQL and Scripting
- Vector Search and Applications with GenAI

DBAs in Action: Real-World Oracle Stories from the Frontline

In a world where the DBA role has been repeatedly predicted to vanish, our experience tells a different story. This session brings insights from supporting hundreds of customers and managing thousands of databases across on-premises, cloud, and managed services environments. We will explore real-world case studies from the past year that highlight how seasoned DBAs continue to play a pivotal role in solving complex challenges.

Attendees will hear detailed accounts of scenarios, including on-call emergencies and planned work, such as:

- Performance incidents: on Exadata and single instance
- Datacenter migrations: simple and complex approaches
- Deployment automation challenges
- Patching fun in a large RAC environment
- Upgrading with minimal downtime

Each case study illustrates technical expertise and strategic thinking that is still relevant in an era dominated by automated tools and self-service platforms.

Join me to see examples that challenge the narrative and demonstrate the enduring value of database specialists, and learn about a few interesting solutions to problems we've recently solved.

PostgreSQL OCI managed service - deep dive

Oracle launched a PostgreSQL managed service in OCI a few months ago, with unique features that enhance the community version and improve the database's resiliency. In this session, we will explore using this new OCI service for production deployments, comparing it with a few real-life on-premises scenarios. We will see the impact on operations and features, covering performance, high availability, and disaster recovery.
