Scaling in the AKS wonderland

Welcome to the AKS wonderland! A magical platform where built-in technologies help to make common tasks fast and easy.

This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the autoscaling technologies in the Azure Kubernetes Service. Nico and Philip will cover everything you need to know about the Vertical Pod Autoscaler (VPA) for optimizing pod resources, the Horizontal Pod Autoscaler (HPA) for scaling the number of pods, the Cluster Autoscaler for node capacity management, and KEDA for custom event-driven scaling scenarios.

Don't miss out on gaining valuable insights into these scaling technologies!

Next-level Kubernetes Networking with Cilium

Philip and Nico will talk about how to get the most out of Kubernetes networking with Cilium. Cilium is widely known for bringing networking and security to Kubernetes. But the eBPF-based open-source project offers much more!

After covering the Cilium basics both will explain advanced features like multi-cluster networking with Cluster Mesh, Cilium's own Service Mesh implementation with Ingress support, and the future of Kubernetes Ingress Routing: Gateway API.

Furthermore, Philip and Nico will provide real-world examples of how you can optimize your network, service, and security observability by leveraging Hubble, Cilium's own networking and security observability platform.

So don't miss this session to learn how you can lift your Kubernetes networking to the next level with Cilium.

How to Prevent Your Kubernetes Cluster From Being Hacked

Philip and Nico will show how to prevent your Kubernetes cluster from being hijacked by introducing you to best practices as well as useful open-source projects based on real-world examples.

They will introduce you open-source projects that will immediately help you take your container and Kubernetes security to the next level:

- Build secure images with Wolfi
- Image verification with Cosign
- Container runtime security with Tetragon

Don't miss this session to learn everything you need to know to keep your Kubernetes-based workloads running securely.

YAMLize your infrastructure with the Azure Service Operator and GitOps

Join this talk to learn about Azure Service Operator v2. In the first part, we will introduce Azure technologies like Azure Service Operator v2, Azure Workload Identity, and GitOps for Azure Kubernetes Service. We will explain how they are linked together to provision Azure resources from Kubernetes. In the second part, we will then show step-by-step how to deploy an application to Kubernetes together with the needed Azure resources only using Git.

So don't miss joining us!

Festive Time With AKS Networking

Join this talk to learn everything you need to know about Azure Kubernetes Service and networking. Philip and Nico will first explain the different network control plane options Kubenet, Azure CNI, and Azure CNI Overlay. Next, they will introduce you to the new Cilium-powered data plane and Bring-Your-Own CNI features. Last but not least, learn how to protect your API server with Private Link and vNet API server integration.

So don't miss joining us for some festive fun with AKS networking!

Kubernetes is awesome – but …

… you should also know when not to use it.

This is what Philip and Nico will talk about in this session. They will share all the things they have learned and seen over the past years.
Philip and Nico share real-world examples of what they've seen in projects and tell you what went wrong and what could have been done better. And why Kubernetes has been the wrong choice for some of them. Applications and use-cases that do not fit Kubernetes are just one example we will talk about.
Join this talk to learn how to take full advantage of Kubernetes and learn where it fits to successfully run your workload.

That said: We love Kubernetes!

Have Yourself An Azure Container Registry

The Christmas wish list often contains stuff we want but don't really need. One thing we definitely need on our Christmas journey on Azure is the Azure Container Registry.

Join this session to learn all the details about the Azure Container Registry and the magical things you can do besides the obvious like storing container images.

Bicep vs. Terraform: Infrastructure as Code on Azure

Whether you want to get started with Infrastructure as Code on Azure or using it already today, in this session Philip will talk about Bicep and Terraform as well as the battle between them.

Is there even a battle or is it just marketing? Do I have to decide? What is the best choice for my use case? If you have ever asked yourself one of those questions or even are just curious about one of those tools, this talk is for you.

In short: There is no battle. Both tools have different scopes. Philip will talk about the pros and cons, and what the tools themselves focus on. Join his talk to learn more!
