Structured Records - From document dump to useful data: Syntex and Azure AI Document Intelligence

Most organisations have thousands of documents in SharePoint, but still rely on people to open each one, work out what it is, and type the important details into another system. That gets slow and expensive when documents arrive in different formats and at different levels of quality.

In this session, we’ll take a practical look at recognising document types and extracting useful information with Microsoft Syntex (Document processing for Microsoft 365) and Azure AI Document Intelligence. Using examples such as invoices, forms and correspondence, we’ll follow a document from arrival through classification, extraction and review, then into searchable metadata and a business process.

We’ll look at where SharePoint’s built-in approach makes sense, when an Azure-based solution gives you more control, and what to consider before putting either into production. Expect a candid discussion of training documents, inconsistent layouts, confidence scores, human review and cost. You’ll leave with a clearer idea of how to turn a pile of files into information people can actually use.
