Kubernetes Is Boring - Long Live Addons!

Technology is a funny thing - one day, it's the hottest new thing. The next, it's production-ready and stable. Although Kubernetes continues to grow in popularity amongst enterprises and engineers, it's not the "hot new thing" anymore.

Now, it's all about third-party tools and add-ons (Service Mesh, GitOps, etc.).

In this session, Michael Levan and Steve Buchanan will dive into what third-party tools/addons you should be thinking about to successfully run Kubernetes in any enterprise, production-ready environment.

PRE-CONFERENCE: Azure Migration Essentials – Migrating Servers and Containers

Whether you’re completely new to migrating workloads to Microsoft Azure or you’ve already started your journey to the cloud, you won’t want to miss this pre-conference deep-dive session. We’ll start off by walking you through the pre-migration activities you should consider such as landing zone design, workload inventory, migration assessments, risk checklists and the tools you need to get up and running.

Once you understand how to get started with your migration project, we will then dive into the different options you have to migrate your workloads (both server based and container based) to Azure – using a combination of traditional lift-and-shift, serverless and container scenarios. When we’ve shown you how to best migrate those workloads to the cloud, you'll then learn how to manage, secure, monitor and govern them like a boss!

Master Azure with VS Code

There are many ways to work with Azure and its services including the: Azure portal, CloudShell, Azure CLI, and Azure REST APIs. And there are even more tools to choose when it comes to working with other services on Azure such as Docker, Kubernetes and more. It can be overwhelming to decipher what Azure tool to use for your day-to-day Azure administration and deployment.

VS Code to the rescue!!!! You can deploy and administer Azure and supporting services direct from VS Code through the plethora of extensions built for Azure. These extensions can be used to work with ARM Templates, Storage, App Service, Docker, Azure Kubernetes Service, Functions, Logic Apps, Event Hub, Cosmos DB, and more. Also, VS Code brings CloudShell directly in so you can work from a single tool!

Come to this demo packed session and learn tips & tricks along with the ins and outs on how to master Azure with VS Code.

What you will learn:
• Overview of VS Code and Azure extensions
• How VS Code is also good for IT Pro's not just developers
• How to enhance your Azure deployment and administration experience using VS Code

Monitoring Containers in the Cloud!

Scenario:
· Your boss walks in the office: “hey man, the dev team spun up some containers on our Azure. I have no clue what they are but you have to monitor them.”
· Boss pats you on the back and walks away.

Uh oh. What Next? Where do I start?

Have you ever been in a situation like this at work? It is not as bad as it seems with the right approach and framework to monitoring. Come to this session as Microsoft MVP's Steve Buchanan, Robert Hedblom, and Dieter Wijckmans walk you through how to monitor Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and how to take on monitoring any other tech that gets dropped on your plate.

Azure DevOps + VS Code + Teams = Perfect Match

Are you working on Azure? If so you are probably working with ARM Templates a lot. And you are probably working with a team on Infrastructure as Code. Azure DevOps can help you centralize your teams IaC ARM Templates. In addition, you will want to use VS Code and Microsoft Teams. There are many extensions in VS Code for ARM Templates. With Teams, you can integrate with Azure DevOps to track commits, pull requests, and even 2-way integration with Kanban boards. Come to this session to learn how to use Azure DevOps, VS Code, and Teams together for enhanced IaC efforts and better collaboration.

Infrastructure as Code with Azure and Terraform

Deploying infrastructure from code is awesome! Hand editing JSON files is not. In this session we'll show you how to augment or replace Azure Resource Manager Templates with HashiCorp's Terraform. We will demonstrate how to convert an existing ARM template to a Terraform configuration, highlighting the use of modules and variables. In addition, you will learn about some of the limitations of Terraform and potential workarounds.
