Power BI External Tools: What the Community Built
Have you ever wanted to see what is happening behind a slow Power BI report? Or wished there were a better way to compare model changes, clean up a semantic model, or make sense of your DAX?
Power BI Desktop is great, but it doesn’t do everything. Luckily, the community has built a whole set of tools to help with the parts that can be difficult, hidden, or repetitive. The tricky bit is knowing which tool is useful for which problem and whether it fits the way you work.
In this demo-heavy session, we’ll take a practical look at tools like DAX Studio, Tabular Editor, ALM Toolkit, and Measure Killer. I’ll show what each one is good at, where it fits into a Power BI workflow, and what to consider around cost, compatibility, and learning curve. You’ll see how they can help with DAX, model development, performance investigation, and comparing or cleaning up models.
You don’t need to have used these tools before. Bring your curiosity and a Power BI problem you’d like to solve. You’ll leave knowing how they can make everyday Power BI work a little easier.
I’m not affiliated with any of these tools, I just use and appreciate them in my day-to-day work.
