The Life and Death of Moore's Law
For more than 50 years, computing has reaped the benefits of Gordon Moore's 1965 prediction that microchip density would double every year or two. How did Moore's Law start, and when will it end? Join Richard Campbell as he explores the origin and efforts that go into keeping Moore's Law accurate and its impact on society. This session explores what it takes to manufacture microchips at the nanometer scale and all the problems that companies like Intel and Samsung have to overcome with each incremental improvement that leads to Moore's Law effect of doubling the density of microchips every 18-24 months. The laws of physics dictate that Moore's Law must eventually end - what happens then?
