What is Going On Within My Network? A subtle introduction to Cilium Hubble

Discover the power of Cilium Hubble in this session dedicated to cloud native observability. I'll introduce you to Hubbe, an open source tool that is transforming the way we observe and understand network traffic in cloud-native systems with the power of eBPF.

In this session, we’ll deep dive into Hubble and how Hubble leverages eBPF technology for deep visibility at the kernel level. Key features like real-time monitoring, comprehensive network flow visibility, and security enforcement, crucial for today's cloud-native applications, will be highlighted.

The talk includes a straightforward demo, showcasing Hubble's efficiency in understanding and reading your network traffic, and its intuitive interface.

Finally, I'll walk you through the initial steps to get started with Cilium Hubble. Whether you're a developer, system administrator, or simply interested in cloud-native technologies, this talk will equip you with the knowledge to use Hubble for enhanced network observability.

Javascript Tooling - The Great Battle of React Build Tools

Build tools have existed since the dawn of the browser era, Javascript has been built for the web. ReactJS is a javascript library that was introduced to make building UIs faster and easier.

When React was introduced to the frontend ecosystem, it heavily promoted Webpack as a build tool for React. The React team included Webpack in the official React boilerplate code generator(create-react-app).

All was well until developers started noticing how slow and difficult setting up Webpack from scratch can be if they decided not to use CRA. This led to the birth of several other build tools meant to solve WebPack issues and make building React Apps faster and easier to set up.

In this talk, I’ll be exploring the following build tools, their benefits, their drawbacks, their speed, etc.

Learning the Ropes: Adventures with Cilium in the Kubernetes Networking Universe

Embark on an exciting journey as we explore the world of Cilium, a networking solution for Kubernetes.

In this talk, I will share my experience and lessons learned as a novice in Kubernetes networking. I'll provide insights on how beginners can start with Cilium, the benefits of using Cilium as a preferred CNI, and how it can improve one's Kubernetes networking experience.

But Cilium is not just limited to its role as a CNI, We'll also explore its broader capabilities and its potential beyond traditional networking.

As a beginner, I understand the challenges of diving into complex networking concepts. That's why this talk is geared towards fellow learners, offering a gentle introduction to Cilium and its core functionalities. I'll share the resources and tips that helped me grasp the fundamentals of Cilium.

Finally, I'll share real-world examples of leveraging Cilium to overcome specific networking challenges so that beginners can see how Cilium is being used in the real world.

Cloud Native: Your First Steps

Are you ready to dive into Cloud Native but not sure where to start? This talk aims to be your essential guide to understanding and navigating this rapidly evolving ecosystem. As someone who transitioned into this field not long ago, I'll share insights from my experience. This talk is tailored to be clear, engaging, and packed with practical knowledge.

We'll begin with the fundamentals: understanding containers and Kubernetes. Discover why containers are a game-changer in software development and how container orchestrators work. We'll also clarify how Cloud Native differs from traditional cloud computing, shedding light on its impact on modern software development.

We'll also explore the CNCF and its role in the ecosystem. You'll discover key resources and communities within the CNCF that are invaluable for beginners.

By the end of this talk, you'll have a clear understanding of the essentials of Cloud Native, from containers and Kubernetes to the broader CNCF landscape.

Decoupling 101 - Why decouple, when not to, progressive decoupling and success stories in decoupling

Decoupled web applications have recently gotten attention in the software development industry, this is because of how useful and effective it can be for development teams. Decoupling is a software architecture pattern that entails splitting web applications into smaller components that perform only a subset of tasks.

This is advantageous because it becomes easier to maintain and update code without affecting the whole application or needing to understand each part of the site. Decoupling comes with it’s own risks of added complexity, and cannot always be implemented quickly or even the right choice for every site.

In this talk, we'll explore the basics of decoupling, and how you can identify whether decoupling is appropriate for your site. We’ll also cover progressive decoupling as a migration strategy, as well as a series of success stories from teams and individuals that have used a decoupled architecture for their applications in production.

Developer Experience - A Catalyst for Success

Developer Experience is a very key part of any B2D product, sometimes it is often neglected, and other times it is not. The quality of your product's developer experience will be responsible for your customer retention rate. In this talk, we'll be discussing what developer experience is, why and how to pay attention to your developer experience and we'll explore products with great developer experience. As a bonus, I'll give my opinions on the benefits of a great developer experience and how to develop a great developer experience strategy.

Open Source in Africa

According to Github reports earlier this year, A certain number of African countries have been listed amount top contributors to open source and also users of Github. Countries like, Nigeria, Morroco, Ghana were all listed.
In this talk, I'll talk about how open source is shaping the future of software development in Africa, Communities supporting open source in Africa, and key players supporting open source in Africa. I'll also suggest better ways companies in more developed countries can support Open Source development and Software in Africa.
