(Power) Laws in Software Development
In 1995 a man robbed two banks with lemon juice on his face. He was sure it made him invisible to the cameras.
What does this have to do with software development?
Software development is full of "laws": short, catchy rules about how systems, teams and users really behave. Behind many of them is plain human behavior. We reuse what's already popular, we pick what everyone else picks, and small head starts snowball into huge leads. Once you notice these patterns, you start seeing them in the software you build every day.
This talk is mostly for fun/entertainment, full of odd stories and surprising numbers. But also some takeaways as a developer on what to concentrate on.
