SQL Server has received a ton of new features since SQL Server 2012, but not everyone has the opportunity to use newer versions of SQL Server. Even if you get to use SQL Server 2019, maybe you are making a jump from SQL 2012 straight to SQL 2019 so you are missing out on all the fantastic new things that appeared between those versions.
