WRK602 - Some Quick Wins to Jump Start Your SharePoint Implementation

The determination of success vs failure for all projects is whether or not what you have implemented is being utilized by the users. Better well known as User Adoption!! However, many wonder what can I do to make sure I’m giving the users what they want, what they didn’t know they needed but will make their job easier and something I like to call the “Plus A Little” and\or the WOW Factor! Quick wins are identified as things that are quick to do, take very little time to implement (low cost), and have a HUGE impact within the organization.

In this workshop we are going to explore & build out different features within your SharePoint (O365 & OnPrem) environment that will make your SharePoint implementation the Rock Star of all projects ever implemented:

• Promoted Links
• Corporate Directory
• Global Navigation
• Collaboration
• Search
• Automation
• Social
• Dashboards

Governance is Not an Option

Random things we all typically hear when it comes to Governance…
· Not on top of the list right now
· Not in the budget
· We’ll get to it later
· Not really seeing the need…

I have yet to hear 1 valid reason as to why Governance should not be completed, maintained, or approved in budgets.  Governance really is not an option in any organization if you want your processes and procedures followed by employees.  Each time I have been involved in a project where governance was put on the back burner there have been issues with not knowing what other departments processes were, building themselves into a corner, not meeting service level agreements, and the list goes on and on.  If there is no one source of truth in how all the functions of the business run, how are you ever going to build a solid foundation and keep it running at the level it needs to run so that your organization can be successful?  In this session we will review what governance is, how it can be useful, how you can get started, maintain it, and most importantly how to get it approved!

BV203 - Doing It Right…The SharePoint Way!

Through numerous years of eating, drinking and sleeping SharePoint I have come to realize that there is 1 thing that has never changed. That 1 thing is a question and the answer to that question is the most important thing in all of SharePoint. That question is "What direction should my organization be going and how do we get there?". The question or a very close form of that question is asked anytime something bad happens to the current environment or software, the current environment or software is up for renewal, new technology is introduced and last but not least, during yearly budget planning. Most companies will fall into one of the following categories:

• Current application is no longer suitable due to company growth, lack of functionality or
• Current application company that created & supported it no longer exists.
• Starting from scratch and SharePoint has been chosen now deciding which way to go and where to start?
• Currently utilizing SharePoint but not exactly the way Microsoft intended
• Need to upgrade to continue support

Regardless of the current situation your organization is in the end goal for all is success and success is measured by the usage of the application. Yes folks user adoption IS more important than being on time or under budget. Otherwise, what was the point of the entire project that I am sure took months and sometimes years to plan and implement. In this session I will take you through where to start, keys to choosing the right path for your organization and most importantly implement SharePoint in a way user adoption meets your goals and of course come in on time and on par with the budget.

SRC301 - Navigation:  A Step Towards Success in SharePoint

Navigation can single handily destroy any SharePoint implementation.  How you ask?  If your users cannot easily find what they are looking for in 3 clicks or less they have lost focus and sometimes the drive to reuse the site.  However, that is not the only issue that can occur with a navigation, one of the most popular ones I have been seeing lately is navigation that takes the users to another page or site then to another and another and another.  I guess the good thing is they eventually get there but the bad news is now they are going to bookmark or make it a favorite so that they never have to click so many times to get back there.  Sounds like a great solution for the users right?  Actually, it’s the worst thing that can possibly happen to your SharePoint implementation.

The basis of implementing SharePoint within an organization is collaboration and if the users are bookmarking sites then they are missing all the information the company is trying to share with their organization.  The home page becomes obsolete, editors of the sites stop updating it and then collaboration only (hopefully) exists within the content sites and the company fails in communication.

In this session we will explore navigation best practices, how to clean up your existing navigation to make it more relevant, easy to use and turn it into the wow factor of your site.  Last but not least some tips and tricks on how to get your users excited about SharePoint and your new navigation.

Promoted Links - You Get This One for Free

A Quick Win is something that takes little time and money but has a LARGE impact...Promoted Links are exactly that so check it out!
Promoted links is an out of the box function that provides an easy way to manage a visual layout of links on your site. With the links being part of a list you get various features that a list provides such as security trimming, views, and opening in a separate window.
In addition, as with all the great features and functionality there are always some downsides and gotchas that you need to be aware of and know how to fix or work around them. In this presentation you will learn what to watch out for and how to avoid some potential issues.

Security & Compliance... Knowing Is Half the Battle

In the context of IT security, compliance means ensuring that your organization meets the standards for data privacy and security that apply to your specific industry. Easily enough said, but what does all that mean and more important how do you get started on such a daunting task? Then once you have implemented a solid structure that adheres to your organization and industry how do you keep up with it? What do you do if your organization is breached and\or a violation by an employee? How do you manage the information you are retrieving from the policies, alerts, etc. that have been implemented. These are all great questions and exactly what we will be diving into in this workshop. We will start with some terminology and end the day with some ideas on maintaining what you have built and ensuring that your organizations governance policies correspond with the configuration that has been implemented in your environment.
