Two Teams, One Repo

At a certain scale, it becomes likely that multiple different teams will need to collaborate on a shared project that they all rely on. Whether its a web and a mobile team building building a shared SDK, or multiple product teams maintaining a company-wide design library, it can be a challenge to coordinate, avoid wasted effort, and maintain harmony across the organization.

Drawing on my experience working as a consultant for Fortune 500 companies, including some of the world’s largest restaurant brands, this talk will explore both the technical and cultural challenges of sharing a codebases across distinct teams and explore several different approaches to increase the chances of success.

Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire: A New Dev’s Guide to Navigating Unfamiliar Codebases

Onboarding to a new project can be difficult, no matter your background and experience. But it can be especially challenging for new developers straight out of school or a coding bootcamp. Drawing on my personal experience as a bootcamp grad and JavaScript consultant, this talk will discuss strategies for new developers to quickly get their bearings in an unfamiliar codebase.

Await Await, Don’t Tell Me!

This may come as a surprise… but your bootcamp probably didn’t do the greatest job of teaching you in-depth fundamentals of Javascript. How could they, when they’re trying to get you from zero → job-ready React developer in 8-12 weeks? In this talk, I’ll attempt to do what they couldn’t and – one bootcamp grad to another – deepen your understanding of one of the most important and confounding parts of JavaScript development: dealing with asynchronous code.

Out of the Frying Pan, Into the Fire: A Manager's Guide to Helping New Developers Thrive

Onboarding to a new project can be difficult, no matter your background and experience. But it can be especially challenging for new developers straight out of school or a coding bootcamp. Drawing on personal experience as a bootcamp grad and JavaScript consultant, this talk will discuss tips and strategies for managers to help the new developers on their teams get their bearings in an unfamiliar codebase, so they can make more of an impact, faster!
