Become a Power BI Data Modeling Wizard using Tabular Editor 3

Are you ready to become a DAX wizard and bend that unruly Power BI data model to your will? Then jump along on this side-quest of your SQL-bits adventure and pick up a new spell book for your coming adventures?

In this quest, we will investigate what kind of tool Tabular Editor is and how it can help you become a more efficient Power BI Wizard (Or developer, whichever you prefer).

The session will be in two halves.

In the first half, we will look at how to achieve common development tasks with Tabular Editor 3 , while second half will be a bonus quest into two advanced features in Tabular Editor 3: Scripting and debugging.

Automate your BI Project with Azure DevOps

This session is continuation from the session “Take control of your BI projects with Azure DevOps” covering the "geeky” stuff where we will go through the consideration for implementation and demonstrate how everything is architectured and setup. During the session we will dive into how infrastructure as code is used, build is executed and release to environments are deployed together with automation for testing and quality assurance. We will go through all the configuration and steps necessary for you to have your environment up and running best practices collected during actual projects.

Co-speaking with Bent Nissen Pedersen, Data Platform MVP.
Can be accompanied with "Take control of your BI projects with Azure DevOps" session.

Getting Started with Power BI Embedding: A Beginner's Guide

If you're looking to embed Power BI into your organization or for external parties, but don't know where to start, this session is for you. In this beginner's guide, we will cover everything you need to know to get started with Power BI embedding.

We'll start by setting up your environment and walk you through testing and deploying your embedded solution. We'll also discuss best practices for licensing your solution and highlight key lessons learned from real-world customer implementations.

By the end of this session, you'll have a clear understanding of how to successfully embed Power BI and provide valuable insights to your colleagues or external parties.

Taking Power BI Embedding to the next level

Learn how to more than just embed "static" content.

By utilizing the Authoring API, we can manipulate existing content or even create new from scratch.

During this session, I'll demonstrate how to build a solution where end users can create new content without using the normal Power BI Authoring experience.

Target audience has already experimented with embedding Power BI and either have solution(s) in production or is close to.
Some experience with Typescript/Javascript is preferable.

Unlocking Advanced Data Modeling Techniques with Tabular Editor for the "Citizen" Power BI Developer

Tabular Editor (TE) is an indispensable tool for Power BI and Analysis Services data model development. Whether you're using the free or commercial version, it can help you streamline your Power BI data model development by connecting directly to Power BI Desktop. This session is designed to empower "citizen" Power BI developers to take their data modeling skills to the next level.

Through a series of practical examples and hands-on demonstrations, you'll learn how to leverage the full potential of Tabular Editor to streamline and optimize your data models. You'll discover how to use TE's powerful scripting engine to perform batch changes and automate common patterns, reducing the time and effort required to maintain and update your data models.

In addition, you'll learn how to use the external tool option within Power BI Desktop to seamlessly integrate TE into your workflow. Whether you're working on a small or large data model, this session will provide you with the techniques and tools you need to work more efficiently and effectively.

By the end of this session, you'll have a solid understanding of how to use Tabular Editor to take your data modeling skills to the next level and become a more productive Power BI developer.

Note: To get the most from this session, attendees should have a basic understanding of Power BI Desktop and the Power BI data model.

Building Better Data Models with Tabular Editor's Best Practice Analyzer

Tabular Editor (TE) is a widely used tool for Power BI and Analysis Services data model development. Whether you're using the free or commercial version, its built-in Best Practice Analyzer provides a simple and effective way to validate your data models against established best practices. This session is designed to help you get the most out of the Best Practice Analyzer and ensure that your data models are optimized for performance, scalability, and maintainability.

You'll learn how to utilize existing rule sets published by TE, the Power BI Customer Advisory Team, and other third parties, and how to customize these rules to meet your specific requirements. You'll discover how to integrate the Best Practice Analyzer into your development process, including during validation steps in CI/CD pipelines, to catch potential issues early and improve your data models over time.

In addition, you'll learn how to create your own custom rule sets for naming conventions, code conventions, and other best practices specific to your organization. By the end of this session, you'll have a solid understanding of how to use the Best Practice Analyzer to improve the quality and performance of your data models and ensure that they meet the needs of your organization.

Note: To get the most from this session, attendees should have prior experience with Tabular Editor and a basic understanding of Analysis Services Tabular, Azure Analysis Services, or Power BI data models.

Enabling CI/CD for Power BI & Analysis Services with Tabular Editor

Tabular Editor (TE) is an essential tool for Power BI and Analysis Services data model development. Whether you're using the free or commercial version, incorporating TE into your CI/CD pipelines can help ensure the quality and consistency of your data models, both technically and from a business logic perspective.

In this session, you'll learn how to leverage the power of Tabular Editor and CI/CD to streamline and automate your data model development process. You'll discover how to set up pull request and build validation to ensure that changes to your models are thoroughly reviewed and tested before they are deployed. Additionally, you'll learn how to use TE to build and package your development into a deployable artifact, and how to automatically deploy to your Azure Analysis Services or Power BI service environment if you are using a Premium capacity or Premium Per User (PPU).

By the end of this session, you'll have a solid understanding of how to integrate Tabular Editor into your CI/CD pipelines and how to use it to improve the quality, speed, and efficiency of your data model development process. Enhancing Power BI Report Development with PBI Explorer

Discover PBI Explorer, the latest tool from Tabular Tools, available at no cost.
It's a unique tool that extends a detailed Tabular Editor-like view into the visual definitions of Power BI reports.

The tool empowers users with comprehensive insights into PBIX/PBIP reports, covering everything from filters and visual settings to interactions and data model application.

The Report Comparer feature offers a practical side-by-side comparison for different report versions. Utilize this to effectively review changes in any report, whether made by you or others.

Adhering to best practices and checking company design guidelines have never been easier than with the build in Report Analyzer feature, constantly validating the model against a set of rules describing good report design from the community potentially bundled with your own set of rules.

This session will introduce the free tool and show how it can streamline your report development process. You'll have the opportunity to learn directly from the developers and ask any questions about its application.

Customize Data Visualizations to Your Preference

Struggling to craft the ideal report for your audience because the right data visualization seems elusive? This session is designed to guide you through the process of creating a custom visual that fits exactly what you're looking for.

Join me to discover the steps to easily develop, test, and deploy your own custom visualizations in Power BI. I'll walk through the setup of your development environment and share best practices for creating visuals that resonate with your data narrative.

This workshop is geared towards those with some background in TypeScript or JavaScript, aiming to leverage those skills in the realm of data storytelling.

Building a proper lambda architecture with Azure

Building a lambda architecture that handles both hot and cold streams of data (and perhaps something in between),
while still having a performant and operational environment for performing further analysis isn't always straight forward.
In this session, we will walk thru the process of choosing the right tools for the tasks.

Utilizing the Microsoft Graph in your BI environment

Learn how you can utilize the Microsoft Graph to access data resources in SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Azure AD, Office 365, Microsoft Teams and more.
