Why didn't I get that promotion?

One of the most difficult bridges to cross in the tech world is the one from technical practitioner to technology leader. Countless developers, engineers, and architects watch other people get promoted into the leadership ranks - either internally or via company change - and wonder how on earth they can achieve the same.

The answer to this isn't to take another thankless "lead developer" role on a monster project. It's to learn how to talk about yourself as the solution to the problems technical leaders solve.

In this session, Diana will share key differences between the problems senior individual contributors in tech solve versus managers / directors in tech. She'll teach you how to talk about yourself in a way that makes it clear you are ready for the challenge of leading people.

How to Talk to Your Boss About Growth

One of the leading reasons for employee frustration is the feeling that there is no path to career growth. While it would be nice if our managers would magically see all our great qualities and hand us the perfect career growth plan on a silver platter, that's not how the world works.

In this session, Diana will explain a framework for talking with your boss about your desires for career growth that is proactive and win-win for you and the company. If you want to stay with your company AND find a way to take on new challenges that are in line with YOUR goals instead, this will be a great session for you!

Leveraging Strengths on Your Teams at Work

"Play to your strengths" is advice people often toss around, but what does that really mean? And what can leaders do to help their team members play to their strengths?

In this session, Diana will teach participants background about the theory of maximizing individual strengths, based on research done by Gallup while developing Clifton Strengths. She'll share how she uses information about individuals' strengths to help them learn how they tick and how that impacts their work. Finally, Diana will also share how leaders can leverage CliftonStrengths while forming teams and working on projects to maximize productivity and team member satisfaction.

Lessons Learned about Writing Resumes

Resumes are so necessary in our professional world, but most people consider updating their resume right up there with root canals and public speaking.

In this session, Diana will share some of her lessons learned about writing resumes from her 20+ year IT career and her work as a career coach. Whether you love updating your resume, hate updating it, or just plain avoid it because you don't plan to look for a new gig anytime soon, this session will give you tips to help your next resume be irresistible.

Fix Your Feedback

One of the words that strikes the most fear in the hearts of humans is "feedback". Why? Because most people suck at giving feedback, that's why.

In this session, you will learn to fix your feedback skills so you can provide effective, clear feedback. This workshop explores the Situation - Behavior - Impact feedback model so that participants can learn how to give feedback that keeps team members focused on a mission without discounting humanity.
