Dr. Phillip Campbell (he/him) is the Senior Assistant Dean for Student Progress and Academic Success at Washington University in St. Louis, MO. In this role, Dr. Campbell provides comprehensive academic advising to undergraduate students and contributes to the vision for programs and events that enhance the academic mission of the College of Arts & Sciences as well as guiding students from first year through graduation. As a collaborative, creative, and experienced higher education professional with a commitment to enhancing student success; I serve as the functional leader for a team charged with providing supports for a diverse student population through a variety of initiatives including academic and support advisement, progress counseling, first-year summer academic program, academic actions, and retention and re-entry experiences. Dr. Campbell is a NODA General Board member and Transition Symposium Faculty.

Authentically Leading Across Generations

Mid-level managers and directors are often caught "in the middle" among a multi-generational team of employees, colleagues, and supervisors. Generational differences around work expectations (workload, flexible work schedules, work-life "balance," etc.) create situations and circumstances that may be challenging to navigate. This panel discussion will provide a safe space to connect and lead from a place of authenticity and care.

Plugging the Leak: Understanding Student Needs to Reduce Stop-Outs, Gaps, and Leaves

Sometimes life gets in the way of student's original educational plans. Between 2013-2018, the quantity of students who left college before graduating rose from 29 to 36 million—an increase of 22% (National Student Clearinghouse Research Center). Commonly referred to as "Stop-outs", these enrollment changes have disproportionately impacted women, low income and working students.

This session will share enrollment pattern changes and explore strategies to support retention and completion.

Unlock Your Inner Scholar: A Panel Discussion hosted by the Scholarly Practices and Resources Commit

Join a diverse group of scholars as they share their journeys, including dissertations, publications, and presentations. They will discuss their conceptualization, data collection, analytical methods and findings, and how they overcame obstacles. Through personal anecdotes, these scholars will offer a candid look at their highs and lows. Whether you're a graduate student, faculty member, or professional, this panel will provide practical advice and encouragement for your academic endeavors. .

What's up, doc? A panel on navigating your possible doctoral studies journey.

Choosing to pursue a doctorate? When should you start (in life and career)? To Ph.D. or Ed.D.? In-person or online? Higher Ed or another field?

Choosing to pursue doctoral studies prompts a myriad of questions and considerations. Join a panel of current doctoral students and graduates to learn from their first-hand experiences engaging in doctoral studies. Panelists will share about their journey, but folx will have the opportunity to ask questions and gain insights on the doctoral journey.

Thriving in Student Affairs Professionals: An Exploration of Supporting Constructs

This session will review a quantitative explanatory study specific to student affairs professionals to better understand thriving and increase opportunities to address issues related to job satisfaction, burnout, stress, and turnover. Seligman’s (2011) model of well-being is based in positive psychology. Results suggested that student affairs professionals at the research site were generally thriving, there are ways to further support thriving throughout higher education.

Spilling the T.

To elevate the work of transition, this session is specifically designed to add respect on the letter in the middle of it all. Transition programming is not found in isolated offices or siloes. This session will highlight intentional programs, strategic partnerships, key data points, and success strategies which can be implemented in first year seminars, extended orientation programs, academic support operations, and peer-to-peer pathways.
