Elizabeth Noble is a Director of Database Development. and the author of "Pro T-SQL 2019". She is also a frequent speaker at SQL Saturdays across the United States and PASS Summit.
When she was introduced to her first database over 10 years ago, her whole world changed. Her passion is to help others improve the quality and speed of deploying database changes through automation. When she is not trying to automate all things, she can be found spending time with her dogs, playing disc golf, or taking a walk.

Your Database Deployments Your Way
You've heard about database deployments, maybe your Developers are pushing to take over your deployment. Whatever the reason, you've heard you can automate database deployments, but you're not sure if you're ready to change your process.
This session is for Database Administrators, Database Engineers, Database Managers, Data Architects, and Developers that want to learn how you can control what is being deployed to your databases and save time! I will discuss how source control can give you the ability to determine what code is included in your deployments. I will also show you how you can design deployment pipelines to determine when and how database code is deployed across environments.
At the end of the session, you will know how to design strategies to manage source control for their databases. You will also know how you can implement continuous integration and deployment pipelines so that you know when and what database code is being deployed to your environments.
To get the most of the session, attendees should understand database schemas and have familiarity with source control.
I will be using Azure Data Studio, GitHub, and Azure DevOps for this presentation.
Transitioning to ADS
Are you currently using Visual Studio for your database deployments? Would you like to have one tool to query data and write code for source control? If so, this may be the session for you!
This session is for developers, database administrators, database engineers, and data architects that want to query and develop database code using the same tools. In addition, if you're someone that has wanted to embrace source control but doesn't was to use Visual Studio, this may be your answer. We will discuss how to can implement or migrate database development to Azure Data Studio (ADS).
At the end of the session, attendees will know how to work with repositories in GitHub, manage database code, and resolve merge conflicts. In addition, attendees will have a general idea of when they can use Azure Data Studio instead of SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
Attendees should be familiar with general concepts about source control.
Streamline Database Deployments
Have you tried implementing source control? How has your continuous integration (CI) process gone?
This session is for developers, database administrators, database engineers, and data architects that want to automate their database deployments. Particularly for those individuals that have hit roadblocks along that way. We will discuss the differences between migration and stated-based deployment methods. We will also discuss options with branching and merging.
At the end of the session, attendees will know how to select the best deployment method for their environment. In addition, attendees will be familiar with branching and merging strategies that can be used as part of their continuous integration strategy.
Attendees should be familiar with general concepts about source control and be comfortable with Visual Studio or VS Code.
Improve Code Quality with Containers
Are you developers writing code in a shared environment? Have they expressed concerns that they are unable to confirm their code is working as expected?
This session is for Azure Engineers, Database Administrators, and Developers that want to improve how they test their database code. We will discuss how containers can help give developers an isolated test environment so they can confirm their code is working as expected. We will also discuss how to setup containers and how developers can easily use these containers.
At the end of the session, attendees will know why containers can help improve their code quality. In addition, attendees will know how to setup and use containers to create isolated testing instances.
