Ignite: Our Approach to Design Systems and Faster Site-Building
Do you ever feel like you’re reinventing the wheel when starting a new website project? How many times have you designed or built the same set of components or the same basic page layouts? There has to be a better way, right? We might have found one.
After countless years of starting every project like it’s our first time, we’ve developed an approach that streamlines design and development, improves collaboration across disciplines and lets you build cool things faster.
In this session, you’ll learn how to create a foundational UI kit in design that can be built into a well-structured design system and integrated with Drupal. This frees up time to focus on custom-development of larger projects or creating lightning-fast speed to market for smaller ones.
We’ll discuss:
- UI kits for designers and developers
- Best practices for building a well-structured foundational design system
- Efficiencies gained from using this approach on small projects, large sites and everything in between

Lightening Talk: Is the Redesign Dead?
From convoluted RFP processes to strategy phases that no one wants to pay for and requirements that are constantly changing, website redesign projects are tough for all involved. With the latest versions of Drupal making upgrades easier than ever and flexible technology platforms and design systems becoming the norm, the large-scale redesign project may be dead. So what do we do instead? How can client organizations and agencies shift their perspective and never do another redesign project? This session will look at how both clients and agencies can take an iterative approach to redesigns that leads to better work, faster time to market and less frustration for all involved.
Behind the Build: How We're Creating Drupal’s New Default Design System
Get a behind-the-scenes look into the creation of the new default design system for DrupalCMS.
This session will explore how the project is coming to life: from research and exploration to the development of a cohesive, accessible, and brand-agnostic system. We’ll dive into the collaborative process, key challenges, and the strategies we're using to balance flexibility, simplicity, and scalability for a diverse community of users.
Whether you're a developer, designer or strategist, this talk will provide valuable insights into the technical and creative decisions that are actively shaping Drupal’s next evolution. Learn what it takes to build a design system that not only empowers content creators but also sets a new standard for an ever-evolving web.
Death to Personas: A Mindset-Focused Approach to Designing Inclusive Web Experiences
User Personas have been a mainstay of UX design since practically the beginning of UX design. But they’re actually not great tools for designing and building inclusive digital experiences. This session will introduce the idea of “Audience Mindsets” as a replacement for traditional User Personas. We’ll take a little trip back into the history of user-centered design and design thinking to look at the origins of Personas and then look at how product design has evolved and where we are now. We’ll get deep into how to define Audience Mindsets and how to use them in Design and Development.
Harvard College: Don't Call it a Redesign
Harvard College updated their print materials for student recruitment and wanted a way to bring that new look to the website efficiently and economically. Mediacurrent identified areas across the site to introduce new design elements and components that make the site feel new without a complete overhaul.
