How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love (Training) the Power Platform
Software as a Service (SaaS) products, such as the Power Platform, present unique opportunities for training. On the one hand, the constant interface changes can often be jarring and challenging for new students to gain a handle of. On the other hand, the pace of innovation and new, "shiny" stuff to show students makes for varied and engaging opportunities to excite the next generation of IT professionals.
In this session, I will provide an overview of some of the challenges and opportunities involved when it comes to training the Power Platform, alongside some of my own "tips and tricks" and how to deliver a great learning experience, stop worrying and love every single training delivery involving the Power Platform.
From ALM to ALM: Transitioning from Application to Agent Lifecycle Management
For years, we have drilled the principles of Application Lifecycle Management (ALM): use Solutions, configure Pipelines, and secure your Environment Variables. We finally got good at it.
But the rules have changed.
Deploying an autonomous Agent is not the same as deploying a Canvas App. An App does exactly what you code it to do; an Agent does what it thinks is right. In this session, we will explore the evolution from traditional ALM to Agent Lifecycle Management.
Learn how to monitor Agents in a productive scenario, avoid pitfalls, and how the "Human-in-the-loop" takes action in a deployment scenario at scale.
Great Scott! 88 Miles of Power Platform Time Warping
Hop into our DeLorean for a Power Apps duel with “Doc Joe Brown” and “Marty Seb McFly” tackling urgent and challenging customer requirements - but in two eras.
First, “Doc” builds the solution the classic way: Canvas apps, Dataverse tables, Power Automate flows - no AI shortcuts, all manually with whiteboard, blood, sweat, and tears. Then “Marty” rewinds time and rebuilds it using Copilot and AI accelerators, slashing through repetitive steps. We’ll guide you through each phase, compare outcomes, and reveal how to fuse both approaches for your next project.
Expect Back to the Future easter eggs, practical demos, and zero fluff.
No paradoxes, just productivity lessons - and a whole lot of “Flux” fun.
Key Takeaways:
- Step-by-Step Walkthroughs: See the manual low-code / no-code build followed by the AI-assisted rebuild.
- Time & Effort Metrics: Track actual click-counts, build time, and configuration steps side by side.
- Quality Comparison: Evaluate UX polish, maintainability, and governance implications for each approach.
- Hybrid Playbook: Best practices for mixing hand-crafted design with AI boosts—when to push buttons yourself, and when to let Copilot drive.
- Engaging “Story Mode”: Learn core Power Platform basics wrapped in a fun, time-travel narrative that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Designing Beautiful Power Apps for Microsoft 365: A Masterclass in Fusing Capabilities
In the beginning, there were two Power App types - canvas and model-driven. And everything was good...well, kind of. Creating visually compelling apps was still incredibly challenging, often requiring the skills of a front-end developer and a whole bunch of HTML / CSS to make things look pretty. Today, we are a lot more fortunate. With extraordinary capabilities such as custom pages, the division between apps is slowly disappearing. But, the challenge of easily embedding canvas apps into model-driven apps still exists. So how can we, as makers, go from building typically functional solutions to something that can impress our colleagues, users and clients? How can we leverage the vast array of Microsoft 365 connectors to create compelling and beautiful task-oriented applications? And can this all be done in a nice, efficient, low-code way?
Join us for this all-day workshop, as our technical and design experts show you the art of the possible and why bringing canvas and model-driven together is so effective when extending out SharePoint, Exchange Online and other key Microsoft 365 services using Power Apps. You'll discover some of the latest innovations available in the platform, see how easy it is to work with them and also work through a series of lab exercises where you can put what you learnt to practice. By the end of the day, you'll walk away with your very own functional and feature-rich application, that blends all of the platform capabilities together in an interesting way. If you are proficient in building simple applications and want to bring your skills to the next level, this workshop is for you!
Key takeaways from the workshop:
- Learn how to build responsive and functional applications leveraging common Microsoft 365 connectors
- Learn how to integrate and embed Power Apps custom pages in model-driven apps
- Learn how to extend functionality in model-driven apps by utilizing custom pages
- Learn more about different techniques for a more enhanced and modern design by utilizing HTML, containers and SVGs
- Understand how to embed and extend out Microsoft Copilot experiences within Power Apps

2 Power BI Storage Modes, 1 Dataverse: Tips and Tricks to Optimize your Reports
It's common that we need to integrate Power BI alongside Dataverse and our model-driven apps (hey, that's the beauty of the Power Platform, right?), to help present our key business data in the most effective manner. But confusion can sometime arise when it comes to the best storage mode to use. Real-time reports sounds great in theory, but if approached in the incorrect manner, those spinning wheels will drive your users crazy. Import mode can get around these issues, but what if our users are impatient or if we need to refresh more than 8 or 48 times a day? For a poor person working with all of this for the first time, it's a true minefield to navigate.
To help you through this or the preserve your sanity (maybe both!), join our two Dataverse and Power BI experts for a deep-dive session on how to build the most effective, highly performant reports, that surface your Dataverse data, while also dealing with those pesky end-user requirements for having everything real-time. In this session, you'll learn:
- The key differences between Import, Direct Query and composite storage modes.
- How both the underlying model and visualization layer impact the performance of your reports.
- The steps involved to build a highly performant underlying model when using DirectQuery mode.
- What tools are available to help us benchmark performance, identify potential problems and resolve them.
If you're a functional consultant or system customizer who works frequently with Power BI, then this is the ideal session for you!
Pimp My Agent - Bling Out with Tools in Copilot Studio
To make any agent effective, it's necessary to incorporate relevant tools connecting to our key business systems so we can automate actions, realise more complex sequences, and have our agents really "dazzle" from an end-user perspective. Fortunately, thanks to low-code agent-building platforms like Copilot Studio, deep development expertise is not necessarily required to integrate these tools; have your idea and a couple of (appropriately privileged) credentials handy, and you can start to build.
In this hands-on, demo-led session, we'll jump into Copilot Studio and understand the power and versatility of tools. We'll take a look at the different types of tools you can use, such as agent flows and MCP Servers, the importance of proper configuration for each tool, and how we can use tools in combination to handle more complex user prompts. If you are sick of working with manual topics and cloud flows to automate your agents' workflows, then this session will illuminate the art of the possible.
Microsoft Dataverse Plug-ins 101
When working with model-driven apps targeting Microsoft Dataverse, you have a lot of capability to automate your processes, enforce business logic and perform complex calculations without needing to resort to code. However, there will be specific situations where you'll need to look at cracking open Visual Studio and putting together a C# script to perform the operations you need - knowing the when, where and how behind all of this can be challenging though. In this session, we'll provide a beginners overview of what plug-ins are, the scenarios where they are most appropriate for use and an end-to-end demonstration of how to build one from scratch. Attendees will gain a high-level understanding of how plug-ins operate at the platform level, the overall process of how to deploy them out and some useful guidance on how to utilise them within current or future projects.
Microsoft Dataverse Custom API's for Dummies
In the past, if we wanted to define our own custom messages and complex business logic within Microsoft Dataverse, developers had to use Custom Actions. With the introduction of Custom API's, we have a modern and scalable way to provide this functionality and benefit from features such as enhanced security integration, localization, and the ability to create our own custom OData Functions that we can call via the Web API. Pretty cool stuff, I'm sure you'll agree. 😀
In this session, I'll provide an overview of Custom API's, how they compare to Custom Actions, and demonstrate how both low-code and pro-developers can use them.
Make Your Dataverse Fort Knox: Baseline Configuration Tips & Tricks
When implementing Power Platform or Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement solutions within smaller organisations, security baseline controls are typically not a huge concern. But as you start to promote and implement these solutions within larger enterprises, you will often encounter several challenges when explaining, justifying and convincing IT teams that the solution you're implementing can align with existing organisational standards and that some of the frequently voiced promises of the solution don't accidentally cause a compliance or legal nightmare. So, how best can we balance this while ensuring we can deliver value, agility and opportunity using low-code tools?
To help you navigate this minefield, join me in this informative, illustrative and kooky session. I will explain and demonstrate the most crucial baseline configurations to apply within any environment leveraging Microsoft Dataverse or one of the many different Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement apps. Based on real-world experiences working within several enterprise environments, attendees will walk away with a firm understanding of several essential, common sense-led steps to improve the posture of any new or existing environment and keep any information security challenges at bay. Make your Dataverse shine with its dazzling security posture by attending this session!
