Dashboard Design - The icing on the cake
Building a Power BI report is easy. Building one that people actually open, understand, and use is a different story. In this session we walk through 5 practical steps that take you from knowing nothing about your audience to delivering a report that serves them.
We cover how to research your audience and define the message, how to organize your content before you open Power BI, how to choose the right visuals, how to apply design principles that improve both clarity and usability, and how to evaluate whether it actually works. No design background needed, just a willingness to approach report building as a process rather than a one-off task.
Power BI & Storytelling - Research, create, deliver
You built the report. It shows exactly what was asked for. And then nobody uses it. That feeling is frustrating, and it happens more often than it should.
Storytelling in Power BI is not about putting as much text as possible on a report or hardcoding all the titles to tell a story.
In this session we go through a practical 3-step process: researching your audience and defining a clear key message, translating that into visuals and layouts that guide the user, and evaluating so the report keeps working after you hand it over.
Turning Data into Decisions with Power BI
Data does not drive decisions on its own. Power BI is a powerful tool, but a report that nobody acts on is a waste of everyone's time.
In this session we cover the full journey: understanding the actual problem and who you are building for before you open Power BI, designing reports that guide users toward the information they need and the actions they should take, communicating your work in a way that resonates with your audience, and making sure the report keeps getting used after you hand it over.
Because nothing matters but action, and that starts long before you pick a visual.
Get Creative with Power BI: Make these core visuals shine!
Core visuals in Power BI are more powerful than most people think. In this session we look at practical techniques to get more out of the visuals you already have, using only what Power BI gives you out of the box.
We use icons, font color, conditional formatting, targets, and highlighting not because they look nice, but because they help your users see immediately what needs attention, understand what the numbers mean, and know what to do next. Everything is practical and ready to apply to your own reports.
Stop building before you're ready: a smarter way to design Power BI reports
Most Power BI reports are built too fast. Someone asks for a dashboard; you open Power BI and start. The result is a report that looks fine but does not really work for the people using it.
In this session, we slow down before we speed up. We go through the questions you should answer before you build anything: who is the audience, what is the actual goal, what decisions should this report support, and how will you know if it works? Following this structure does not take more time; it saves you from having to rebuild the same report three times.
You will leave with a practical way of working that helps you build reports that are actually used.
Creativity in Power BI: Two sides of a coin
Creativity in Power BI is valuable. It is how we learn, discover what is possible, and grow. But context matters just as much. What you build to explore and experiment is not the same as what you deliver to a client or a Power BI user.
In this session, we look at both sides: when creativity drives better work, and when it gets in the way. You will walk away with a clearer sense of when to push boundaries and when to pull back, and how to always keep the person you are building for at the center.
Power BI Tables and Matrix Visuals: The Next Step
Tables and matrix visuals are in almost every Power BI report, and for good reason. But a table that just dumps data on the user is not helping anyone make decisions.
In this session we look at how to take tables and matrix visuals to the next step through real use cases in finance, operations, and project management. We cover layout and formatting techniques, DAX for dynamic conditional formatting, and just as importantly, when a table is not the right choice at all.
