Database Superhero at Sound Physicians, Just someone trying to make a difference in the world
Raleigh, North Carolina, United States
Tracy Boggiano is currently a 3x Data Platform MVP, the PASSion 2020 Award winner for her outstanding volunteer work in the data community, and works as a Database Architect for Sound Physicians. Tracy has worked on SQL Server since 6.5. She is currently a co-leader of the Triangle SQL Server User Group in Raleigh, NC, and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Data Community Virtual Group. She was featured in RedGate's inaugural 100 most influential data professional's list in the Community Heroes category in 2022.
When she is not doing things in the Data Platform community, she tries to make a difference somewhere. Her number one passion outside of SQL Server is volunteering by advocating for abused and neglected foster children in court through the North Carolina Guardian ad Litem program. This is her favorite and most important job. She has been a Guardian ad Litem since 2003 and advocated for over 60 children. She won the Overall Outstanding Volunteer Award in her county from the United Way in 2021 for her volunteer work with the Guardian ad Litem program. As someone who experienced mental health issues, she has for the past two years started being a mental health advocate by being a part of the PAIMI (Protection and Advocacy of Individuals with Mental Illnesses) Advisory Council with the DRNC (Disability Rights of North Carolina). She also serves on the board of directors for Foster Family Alliance of NC, a charity dedicated to educating, advocating, supporting, and promoting partnerships that led to positive outcomes for children, youth, and foster families of NC, and Youth Lead NC, a charity dedicated equipping youth with disabilities with the skills and support needed to reach their full potential and become independent, productive members of society. She also volunteers with her church. Don't ask how she has time to do these things, she will say it has something to do with "fairy dust".

Ever had an employee under your leadership going through a trying time with their mental health and not know what do or what to say? Have you suspected an employee was having an issue and didn’t know how to approach the subject? Then come to this session for the answers to these questions and more so you as a leader can help support an employee’s mental health.
This session is intended for anybody in a leadership role. This session provides practical, straightforward strategies to be used to address a very difficult topic.
Using dbachecks to Validate Your SQL Server Estate
Checking that all your SQL server instances are in compliance with your standards can be a tedious task if you have to do it manually. Well, that is where dbachecks comes in. This open-source PowerShell community written module makes this task easy. It can be run across your entire estate to check your instances are meeting all your standards. It has several built-in tests for things such as how long ago was CHECKDB run, how long ago were backups run, are your SQL Agent operators correct, is Query Store configured properly, is DAC allowed, is the instance CIS compliant, are your autogrowth settings correct, do you have too many VLFs in your log file, and many more. You can even write your own if they don’t exist in the module. The results can be displayed in a PowerBI report that is easy for managers to understand and saved to a database for historical reporting.
Come to this session to learn how to leverage this PowerShell module to make sure your environment is meeting your standards everywhere without having to write your own solution.
How To Get the Auditors Off Your Butt with dbachecks
Auditors are no fun to deal with and proving your systems meet their standards can be a PITA. Do you really want to have to provide print screens or run queries on servers to provide them with data when you can just run PowerShell using dbachecks and produce a PowerBi report? Yeah, I didn’t think so, so let’s talk about how to use dbachecks then specifically how to use for CIS compliance. After that we will cover how to write your own custom checks so you can utilize this tool for your own security compliance requirements.
