As a Green Software Advocate and Tech Sustainability Consultant, my mission is helping companies and professionals build more sustainable, low-carbon digital solutions. Since discovering technology's environmental impact in early 2023, I've become a recognized speaker at major tech conferences and co-founded Green Software Italia community. I believe in responsible technology that creates positive impact for both businesses and the environment.

The Hidden Cost of "Just Ask AI": A Guide to Green Prompting
In a perfect and ideal world, powerful technologies with built‑in biases, significant environmental footprints, and deep social impacts would not be rolled out to everyone - especially non‑technical people - without clear instructions and safeguards.
However, we don't live in a perfect or ideal world, and since late 2022, one example of such a tool has been available to anyone with an internet connection: ChatGPT, followed by many more generative AI tools.
Fast forward to 2026 and these tools are now integrated into search engines, messaging apps, text editors, document creation apps, social media, and every other corner of the digital world. It goes without saying that these tools can be used for various tasks in uncontrollable ways (TL;DR: studies have shown that it is the fastest-adopted technology in history).
As developers, technicians and sustainability advocates, we can contribute to raising awareness of and limiting the environmental impact of our products, but what can we do as users? Furthermore, how can people with no digital skills use generative AI in a more sustainable way?
In this session, I will cover green prompting and share instructions that anyone can apply. I will show that, by carefully crafting prompts, it is possible to reduce the environmental footprint of AI systems while maintaining high-quality results.
Demystifying green IT: the most common misconceptions about sustainability and technology
Green IT and sustainable technology are broad and still-evolving fields. Sustainability isn’t a switch you can simply turn on, it’s a mindset reflected in a series of design and operational choices aimed at reducing energy use, emissions, and waste.
Yet, the absence of a clear and “general” sustainable path leads to confusion and inconsistent practices that may seem to spread awareness about sustainable tech but, instead, often contribute to greenwashing.
We’ll explore surprising truths behind “eco-friendly” coding practices: from whether dark mode actually saves energy to the myth that writing everything in Rust or C can save the world and why automatic optimization tools can sometimes do more harm than good.
Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of how to evaluate sustainability claims in tech and make informed, evidence-based choices in their own day-to-day work.
The Kubernetes Compass: Navigating Space and Time for Energy Efficiency
As the world shifts toward renewable energy, the need to align computing workloads with the availability of green resources has never been more critical. In this talk, we’ll explore how Kubernetes can serve as a "compass", guiding workloads across space and time to optimize energy efficiency. By leveraging temporal shifting to align workloads with periods of peak renewable energy generation and spatial shifting to dynamically move workloads to regions with surplus green energy, we’ll demonstrate strategies that not only reduce carbon footprints but also enhance cost-efficiency. Through real-world examples and practical insights, this session will showcase how temporal and spatial scheduling innovations can transform Kubernetes into a powerful tool for sustainable cloud operations. Join us to discover how to navigate the intersection of technology and sustainability, paving the way for a greener, smarter future.
Building a Sustainable Web: a practical exploration of Open Source tools and strategies
Being someone deeply concerned about climate change, I stumbled upon web sustainability by chance. I first learned about how to create a better User Experience taking in consideration sustainability principles and strategies. It wasn’t enough for me. I searched for more information and tried to connect some key words to “sustainable” or “sustainability” such as cloud sustainability, more sustainable cms, more sustainable programming languages, etc. At some point I didn’t know where I was and what I was searching for anymore as I couldn’t see a clear and linear path (sorry, INTJ problems). So I tried to build it myself and, as small as they seemed, I made some steps forward and open source and the community aspect had a key role. In this talk we will take a look at those steps and explore some open source tools and resources so the approach to a more sustainable development won’t seem like an insurmountable obstacle any longer.
From shy contributor to (kinda) confident community leader
At least once in the life of a software engineer or someone who works in technology, you will hear that contributing to open source is important and that you should try it. For some people, however, contributing doesn’t just mean fixing a bug or updating some documentation. For these people, it means finding the right community to proudly be a part of, fighting their shyness, and then developing the confidence to jump in.
In this talk, I will share how my experience with communities began and was basically driven by my interest on the environmental impacts of technology. My role as an advocate for environmental sustainability has been the reason why I then co-founded “Green Software Italia”, a community centred around sustainability, accessibility and a more inclusive tech world and without even realizing it I became a community leader. I will share some tips for getting started, how you can take the next step and then, eventually, become an ambassador for your community.
We need to talk about AI, Sustainable AI
Since ChatGPT's launch in 2022, GenAI has surged—but with great power comes great responsibility and environmental costs. AI could contribute 14% of global emissions by 2040, with water usage reaching 6.6 billion cubic meters by 2027. Meanwhile, only 28% of U.S. adults feel highly confident in digital literacy, a concern reflected in EU regulations like Article 4 of the AI Act. Sustainability and GenAI may seem at odds, but in this talk, we’ll explore strategies to evaluate and minimize their impact, ensuring (hopefully) a future where innovation and sustainability go hand in hand.
