The Urgent Fight for Health Equity: Inequality, the economy, and public health

Digital transformation continues to shape the healthcare industry. Osama Alsaleh analyzes how technology-enabled healthcare has the power to address inequality in the healthcare space.

Social disparities and inequities in access to higher education, among other factors, have limited many community’s ability to generate economic and social growth. The Interoperability of Empathy

Representative Diversity and Inclusion is slowly gaining prevalence in technical industries such as Healthcare IT. Through experiential knowledge, we will explore topics of how Diversity and Inclusion can become woven into a Cerner's culture through a technical and empathic lens. In this discussion we will challenge how to leverage innovation while also making compassion and empathy interoperable. Tangible utility can be created for the most technical and least technical teams---we've explored methods of questioning how to move towards improving diversity and inclusion both personally and professionally. From this discussion, we hope participants will be better positioned to make measurable progress in bringing about sustainable change regarding nuanced, inter-related topics such as product development, self development and consciousness in our workforce.

Exploring the Ethics of AI in Healthcare

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) have the potential to transform patient care, quality and outcomes. With the opportunity to revolutionize healthcare, comes concerns about the negative impact these technologies could have on human interaction and patient safety, including gender and racial bias. As our models become increasingly more sophisticated and complex, so too do the demands for predicting, mitigating, measuring, and communicating negative outcomes. In this session we will explore Cerner’s thought leadership around AI and ML and how we transform data into healthcare intelligence. We will tie this into a discussion around ethics and the role of patient safety in AI and ML development, deployment, implementation and adoption and how Cerner is connecting the dots.
