Inclusive Design for the Little People

As we continue to push innovation, we watching the gaps of inequities and inequalities grow wider. This is especially evident with a lot of products today, as designs that work perfectly for most people, usually do not work well for kids.

But kids' perceptions and experiences matter especially since owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, online learning has more or less become necessary among kids of all ages.

This means they now make up an essential audience for many websites and apps (e.g Zoom).

It is our collective responsibility to understand that every design decision we make has the potential to include or exclude people, and as such, there is a need to make sure that our solutions can extend to as many people as reasonably possible regardless of age, context, or situation.

Having designed for kids myself, I will be sharing what I've come to learn by specifically considering children’s wants and needs in the design process.

We will also cover the subtle differences and a few similarities between designing for kids and designing for adults, in a bid to consider people of all ages.

Designing for people-friendly algorithms

In a world where the product uniquely adapts to each user, we find that creating personalized products requires a new type of mindset and approach to design. User-centred design is no longer enough, the interfaces of the future must be easy for people to use & easy for algorithms to analyze.

As designers, this means we have a vital role to play in algorithm-driven initiatives —bringing a human-centred perspective to a technology that can too easily overlook the end-user. If we don't apply a human-centred lens to our design process, we risk optimizing for solutions that don't resonate with users—or worse, completely delivering the wrong solution.

In this talk, we would cover practical tips on how to harmoniously pair algorithms with intelligently crafted interfaces in order to succeed with our solutions.

Designing for the Next Generation of Users

As product designers, we need to prepare for the next generation of users who will have different needs and expectations from users today, based on the milestones set by technologies that have come to shape the next decade. In this talk, I will discuss the importance of designing for the future and share insights on emerging trends and technologies that are changing the next era of product design. I will also share some of my personal experiences enhancing legacy finance and marketing products at Paystack and Flicksocial with emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The highlight would be the impact these technologies can have on product adoption and engagement as well as how to go about developing the mindset for co-creating with them.

Building a Collaborative Design Culture: Strategies for successful cross-functional teams

In today's world, product development is a collaborative effort that involves multiple teams, each with its own goals and priorities. When creating successful products, designers will need to go beyond working effectively with developers, product managers, and other stakeholders and look for more ways to deliver value by helping everyone achieve their best work. In this talk, I'll share strategies and best practices for collaborating beyond design. Attendees will learn how to build trust, align goals, and communicate effectively with cross-functional teams.
