A biologist and bioinformaticist by training, R. Rentzsch earned his PhD on the classification of protein domains based on sequence, structure and function from University College London in 2012. After returning to Germany, he joined the Robert Koch Institute in Berlin as a postdoctoral scholar. There, his work focused on applying machine learning techniques for the prediction of pathogenic phenotypes on the single-molecule and whole-genome levels. In 2019, Robert moved from science to consulting and science funding, joining the iit within VDI/VDE-IT. Currently, he closely follows the implementation of digital credentials and a diverse range of portals in the education sector as well as the ongoing (r)evolution of research data management.

Simon trained as a science teacher after completing his PhD at the John Innes Centre. Since then he has worked in 4 different schools in Norfolk, in positions including Head of Science, Director of Science College and most recently Principal of a rural 11-16 secondary school. He has joined East Norfolk Sixth Form College, this Easter as Deputy Principal.
