Siobhan Baker

Siobhan Baker

Siobhan first entered the tech industry in 2017, as the Community Manager for a social enterprise aiming to get more women into careers in tech. Whilst there she scaled their community offering to almost triple its size - delivering over 200 activities across the UK including free coding courses.

She left this role in 2018 to pursue a coding internship through Black Girl Tech and 8th Light, which was instrumental in preparing her for her current role in software engineering.

In her own time, Siobhan is part of the Leadership Team for Coding Black Females, a non-profit which supports Black females aspiring to and/or working in tech. She is also actively questioning how to blend her interests in art, philosophy and coding.

When not doing that, she’s been escaping to her local park and woodlands for long solo walks in an attempt to combat her lockdown weight gain!

Dale Dowdie

Dale Dowdie

Dale Dowdie was a hacker in High School. His Computer class teacher felt there were better uses for his talent and he ended up as the first High School Student to be hired by NASA at Goddard Spaceflight Center in Greenbelt MD - working on predictive modeling for storm tracking. Afterwards Mr Dowdie went to Boston University to study computer Engineering. While still in College Mr Dowdie started the first of his companies delivering training and network integration services to the fledgling computer revolution.

Mr. Dowdie founded Intellitech Consulting Enterprises in 1993, which was the 3rd company he had started. The goal of Intellitech is to provide intelligent technology solutions for business and educational institutions. Over the past 20 years, Intellitech has provided Software Development, Management/IT Consulting, Disaster Recovery/Business Continuity and Consulting Services for organizations, banks and institutions including Liberty Mutual Insurance, Citizens Bank, TJX Companies, Staples and McCormick, to the Government of St. Lucia and Harvard University. Intellitech has also developed a core vertical market software development team that designs industry specific web/mobile enabled solutions.

One such Solution is BlackFacts.com. Blackfacts is the brain-child of longtime friend and collaborator Ken Granderson, and over the past 20 years it has been running and providing historical facts-of-the-day to our community. Mr. Dowdie was brought in early on to help husband the idea to the next level. However, for years the site remained just a source of black history facts, and in time it grew to be the #1 source for Black Facts on the internet. That all changed in 2017, as Mr. Dowdie and Mr. Granderson finally gave the project the focus it deserved and thus began the process of turning Blackfacts.com from just a historical reference site for Black History into the 'Black Wikipedia' and a showcase of the cultural contributions of people of color and a showcase of the type of technology solutions that can be provided by and to people of color. Those efforts can be seen in this, the latest evolution of BlackFacts.com. There is so much that can be done with the platform, and we hope that you stick around to enjoy the journey with us...

As a leading edge business based in Boston, MA, Intellitech has a diverse staff of team members with the background and expertise to satisfy clients from around the world. “Human connection is not lost in the Internet, it is only expanded. Our solutions always keep that fact in mind and in the forefront of the minds of our customers.”

Bryan Hackleman

Bryan Hackleman

Bryan Hackleman is an experienced Mechanical Engineer working at Advanced Energy in Fort Collins, Colorado. The company is known for its work in designing and manufacturing essential products across various industries, including semiconductors, flat panel displays, data storage, telecommunications networks, solar cells, medical devices, and architectural glass.

In his role at Advanced Energy, Bryan applies his strong analytical skills to research, evaluate, and solve complex technical challenges. His responsibilities also include project management, documentation, and technical writing. He is proficient in ASME Y14.5 GD&T and is skilled in using several CAD programs such as PTC Creo, SOLIDWORKS, ANSYS, and Fluent. He is also adept at data analysis using tools like Excel, Matlab, and Minitab, and he has a solid foundation in finite element analysis and computational fluid dynamics. His expertise in Design-For-Manufacture (DFM) and Design-For-Manufacturing-Assembly (DFMA) principles is critical to his contributions to ensuring efficient and effective product designs.

At Advanced Energy, Bryan is responsible for designing equipment crucial for semiconductor manufacturing. He utilizes SolidWorks to develop derivative RF generators, modifying existing designs to meet the specific needs of clients. His work involves designing sheet-metal enclosures, heatsinks, and cable assemblies. He also ensures the proper packaging of electronic circuitry within protective enclosures and is involved in troubleshooting, testing, and debugging prototype power supply units.

Bryan's role extends to maintaining and enhancing the company's existing RF generator product lines. He is tasked with qualifying new mechanical and electrical components, particularly when current components become obsolete or scarce. He also conducts thermal analysis to ensure that these products maintain their high standards of reliability.

In addition to his design and maintenance responsibilities, Bryan actively supports the production process by addressing mechanical component issues as they arise. He focuses on resolving DFM-related concerns and improving assembly operations to boost efficiency. He also works closely with suppliers to fix problems with parts that do not meet tolerance specifications, recommending rework or adjustments when necessary.

Before becoming a Mechanical Engineer, Bryan gained valuable experience as an Assembler at Advanced Energy. In this role, he independently assembled and tested both electrical and mechanical components, following detailed schematics, diagrams, and verbal instructions. He also maintained a clean and organized laboratory environment, which was essential for ensuring safety and operational efficiency.

Bryan's educational background includes a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering, both earned from Colorado State University (CSU). His thesis focused on the regeneration of oxidation catalysts through chemical washing, and he co-authored a paper on this topic that was presented at the 2018 Gas Machinery Conference in Kansas City, Missouri.

While at CSU, Bryan also worked as a Research Assistant in the CSU Hydraulics Laboratory. His responsibilities included maintaining equipment, preparing soil erosion experiments, and fabricating scale models for performance testing. He also gained experience as a Research Engineer for Pipeline Research Council International, where he conducted research on the degradation of oxidation catalysts and evaluated the effectiveness of chemical washing treatments.

Outside of his engineering career, Bryan Hackleman is passionate about art. He enjoys painting and drawing, mainly focusing on oil landscapes. He hopes to turn this creative passion into a side career by selling his artwork. Additionally, he is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys fly fishing and hiking, activities that reflect his strong connection to his Colorado roots. He is also an avid reader who constantly seeks to learn and explore new ideas, both in his professional and personal life.
