Vara Bonthu is a Principal Technologist for Open Source – Data, AI & Kubernetes at AWS, and a CNCF Maintainer for the Kubeflow Spark Operator and MCP Server for Spark History Server. He leads the Data-on-EKS and AI-on-EKS open-source initiatives, helping organizations architect and scale distributed data and AI workloads on Kubernetes.
With hands-on experience managing Spark deployments across thousands of nodes and hundreds of thousands of pods, Vara focuses on performance optimization, workload resiliency, and AI-driven observability for cloud-native data frameworks including Apache Spark, Ray, and Kubeflow.
