In 2004 she started her real estate career in Orange, LA, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties. She has worked in every aspect of the industry representing sellers, buyers, investors, and businesses and in corporate leadership roles. She has over 36 years of progressive sales management, marketing, and leadership experience, hundreds of hours of lecturing and teaching, contract negotiation, and strategic marketing creation.

Prior to this academic appointment, Schlund-Vials was Board of Trustees Distinguished Professor in English and Asian/Asian American Studies at the University of Connecticut. She is a past president of the Association for Asian American Studies (2016-2018) and recently completed her tenure as the president of the American Studies Association (2021-2022).
