One of the first memories I can remember from my childhood is when my father took me to the movies. I was 7 and that experience marked me forever! I was so excited I couldn´t sleep for the next couple of nights. Later, working in the advertising industry, I realized that the techniques used by writers, screenwriters and directors to capture the audience´s attention and imagination could also be used by brands and people willing to communicate better. This is when my greatest passion has turned into my job.

In fact, when I started to study and work with corporate storytelling in Brazil I was in uncharted waters. The clients were curious about it, but didn´t know much at the time. Literature, for example, was only available abroad. and there wasn´t any storytelling courses at our universities. It was funny to talk about it and watch people reacting: “Story WHAT?”. Some friends thought I was going crazy, by the way.

This was the scenario back then, which made me somehow a pioneer in the subject. This quest started in 2008 and, since then, I've been helping lots of clients to use the power of storytelling: from global brands to local startups, from governments to presidency candidates. During this journey I have been speaking at major events, such as HSM Expo and Campus Party, and giving classes at cutting edge Brazilian and international educational institutions: USP, FGV, ESPM, FIAP, Harvard Business Review and Coimbra University. I was in the right path, storytelling became a hit.

Nowadays I am in charge of StoryTalks, the first narrative and expression consultancy in the country, alongside my partner Paulo Ferreira, one of the most requested speaker trainers of the market. Together we help companies and professionals to tell their stories focusing on results.

One of my most memorable experiences was teaching YITDOTS YOGA to disadvantaged and marginalized children in Haiti. There, I combined traditional yoga with dance yoga, witnessing firsthand the transformative power of movement and mindfulness.

Teaching in Taipei, Taiwan

In Taipei, Taiwan, I had the honor of teaching yoga and meditation to young Buddhist children and their parents at the temple. This experience deepened my sense of community and cultural connection, bringing peace and joy to all involved.

Yoga in the Natural Beauty of India

Another cherished memory is from India, where I took yoga classes in a nature-filled park, surrounded by playful monkeys jumping from tree to tree. These organic sessions, conducted on makeshift mats, were a unique blend of nature and practice. Even from the U.S., I continue these classes online, maintaining bonds of friendship that transcend borders.

A Year of Silence in Haiti

In 2021, I embarked on a year of silence in Haiti, traveling through eight of the country's ten departments. Despite the country's insecurity and the assassination of its president, I found a deep sense of reflection and transformation. I learned that silence does not negate the ability to communicate and influence, as I remained connected to my daughter and mother through technology. This period taught me the profound impact of intentions and body language, revealing that communication goes beyond words. The experience, long-awaited after my daughter Harmony Divine went off to college, was both challenging and enlightening, reinforcing my commitment to mindfulness and self-discovery. To stay informed to current events in Haiti, I regularly tune into radio stations these two stations, Eritye Papa Desalin and Haiti Our Revolution Continues, which provide accurate and insightful news from a Haitian progressive perspective.

Amélie E. Koran is currently the Senior Technology Advocate for Splunk and recently served as the Deputy Chief Information Officer and most recently as Chief Technology Officer for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General. However, Amélie’s path prior to today took her the long way around − through multiple industry sectors, academia, and the public sector. Her professional experience includes time spent at The Walt Disney Company, Carnegie Mellon University’s CERT/CC, Mandiant, The World Bank, Constellation Energy (now Exelon) and The American Chemical Society. She began her time in the public sector as Lead Enterprise Security Architect for the U.S. Department of the Interior, eventually moving on to lead Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation implementation for the U.S. Treasury Department. Amélie later spent time on a leadership development rotation as part of the President’s Management Council Fellowship serving the Federal CIO in supporting cybersecurity policy analysis and legislative review, where she took an active role in the government-wide Open Data Initiative and helped in giving “birth” to the United States Digital Service (USDS). Jeremy specializes in tourism & recreation economics, visitor use management, regional economic analysis, as well as survey development, deployment, and analysis. He brings more than ten years of post-Ph.D. experience in socioeconomic-based actionable research. As an economic geographer by training, he approaches his projects through a lens of all things being connected through space; whether this is through the sharing of physical land or economic interdependency.

Jeremy currently leads multiple projects under the National Park Service’s nationwide socioeconomic research contract, including those that seek to place economic and social value on lands, and wildlife. Additionally, he leads projects involving Market Assessment and Planning of tourism and recreation regions, assets, and investments.

Prior to coming to RRC in 2022, Jeremy led the Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research at the University of Montana, where he directed annual projects to estimate statewide visitor spending and profiles, as well as an assortment of niche tourism studies.
