We started as competitors. Two morning news anchors. Two stations. Two women chasing stories, breaking news and trying to win the attention of the same viewers.

But somewhere along the way, competition turned into friendship.

Years later, we both left the anchor desk and discovered that the skills we built in television—storytelling, understanding audiences, thinking on our feet, building trust and communicating clearly—could take us in entirely new directions.

Today, we’re both business owners working in communications and marketing. Jodi brings big-picture marketing strategy, email marketing, campaigns and creative ideas. Kaycee focuses on social media, digital presence and helping brands show up consistently where their audiences are already spending time.

And even though Jodi is outside Chicago and Kaycee is in Idaho, we work together like we still live next door to each other—as we once did in Montana.

Our first joint client brought the partnership to life. Instead of trying to be everything to everyone, we combined our individual strengths to give one client a broader, more connected marketing approach. Different expertise. Shared trust. One goal.

Now we share with audiences what can happen when you stop viewing talented people in your industry as competition and start recognizing the power of collaboration.

Through our own unexpected career journey—from competing on morning television to building independent businesses and partnering across state lines—we’ll share practical lessons on:

• Turning career skills into new opportunities and finding the talents that translate across industries
• Identifying your unique strengths instead of trying to do every part yourself
• Building partnerships that complement, rather than duplicate, your expertise
• Collaborating effectively from hundreds of miles apart
• Protecting and leveraging friendship while building a successful professional relationship
• Creating a more connected business strategy by bringing the right specialists to the table
• Why collaboration may be one of the biggest competitive advantages available today

The biggest lesson? Your next great opportunity may not come from becoming better at everything. It may come from knowing what you do best, finding someone whose strengths complement yours and being confident enough to build something together.

Because sometimes the person who once competed with you for the morning audience becomes the person you call when you’re building your next big idea.
