Her current focus is on food and food packaging. She has been leading the development of a certification program for identifying food contact products with environmentally preferable chemistry (GreenScreen Certified™ for Food Service Ware) in partnership with Clean Production Action. With 3 decades of experience in the environmental health field, Sue has also worked with the San Francisco Foundation’s Environmental Health and Justice Initiative, Greenaction for Health & Environmental Justice, and the Environmental Defense Fund, among others. Emile Hoogterp, technisch directeur bij Ingenieursbureau Westenberg wilde eigenlijk al heel zijn leven wat met het milieu. Hij heeft daarom voor de opleiding civiele techniek gekozen omdat dit een brede opleiding, waar veel milieu in voorkwam. Tijdens zijn studie heeft hij onderzoeken gedaan op het gebied van vistrappen, helofytenfilters, bodemonderzoek en windturbines. Bij Ingenieursbureau Westenberg heeft hij energielabels en -prestatieadviezen gegeven, maar hij is hij nu vooral actief in de duurzame civiele wereld. Ruben helps lead Better World Group's clean transportation, climate and clean energy portfolio. His demonstrated commitment to a clean economy has yielded enduring relationships throughout California and across the country with a vast network of stakeholders from nonprofit, media, government, philanthropy, and the private sector.

Ruben has led a multi-state campaign opposing the Trump administration’s rollback of clean car standards and he is currently managing efforts to strengthen the California Air Resources Board Advanced Clean Truck Rule. He co-authored a report on electric vehicle incentives for Energy Independence Now, leads the outreach and policy work for Southern California’s Clean Transportation Funding programs and managed the California Business Alliance for a Clean Economy -- a statewide alliance of California’s leading business associations. The coalition educated policy makers on key policies that support the clean energy economy.

Throughout his career, Ruben has worked extensively with nonprofits and foundations to create strategic plans and marketing and communications tools such as the Red Carpet/Green Cars Academy Awards initiative for Global Green, the Little Green Fingers community gardens initiative for First 5 LA and the LA Conservation Corps and the Founders Business Accelerator program for the LA Cleantech Incubator.

He also has developed an annual corporate philanthropy program and provided strategic guidance to philanthropic leaders including the Southern California Grantmakers Association, Energy Foundation, Pisces Foundation, and the Water Foundation about ways to best implement their priorities.

Prior to joining Better World Group, Ruben served as the Director of Communications and Corporate Relations for Global Green USA, founded by President Gorbachev. He helped lead an innovative green rebuilding effort in New Orleans post Hurricane Katrina, and developed a national green schools initiative. Before Global Green, he ran the Earth Communications Office (ECO), a Hollywood-based national nonprofit organization.

Ruben recently completed the inaugural CORO Lead LA Fellowship and is a member of KCET's Advisory Board where he chairs the “Local Heroes” program. He serves on the Advisory Board for the UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation and the Advisory Committee for the California Energy Commission’s Clean Transportation Program Investment Plan.
