Dr. Kevin Yabes (he/him) is a postdoctoral psychology fellow with the APA-accredited postdoctoral residency program at VA Pacific Islands Health Care System (VAPIHCS). He earned his Ph.D. in counseling psychology with a minor in Integrated Behavioral Healthcare from New Mexico State University. Dr. Yabes also holds an M.S. in multicultural community counseling and social justice education from San Diego State University's Community-Based Block (CBB) program. He is a past fellow of the California State University (CSU) Chancellor's Doctoral Incentive Program (CDIP). His clinical/research interests are in Filipinx American/Asian American psychology, health psychology, masculinity, and cross-cultural clinical supervision. Dr. Fernandez is currently the Student Support Services Director for the Lakeside Union School District and a Lecturer in the Department of Dual Language and English Learner Education at San Diego State University. She is a former public school administrator and classroom teacher.

She maintains an active professional life overseeing her school's district school safety, student well-being, connectedness, attendance and overall student support programs. She is the foster youth and McKinney-Vento liaison for her district, working closely with the department of child and family wellbeing and the county office of education. She is liaison to students whose parent or guardian offers active duty service to any military branch.

Her passion in service of children and youth to improve systems of support, remove potential barriers and help anyone who is experiencing barriers to school success stems from her desire to improve educational outcomes for all. Being an educator contributes to both her personal and professional growth. She finds volunteering time in the county of San Diego gratifying and gives one hundred percent to any task she undertakes. Patricia is a native Angeleno with deep roots in the Mexican-American community. She grew up on the east side of Los Angeles. After graduating Roosevelt High School, she attended San Diego State University where as a first-generation graduate she received a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Multicultural Education, a Master of Arts in Education with an emphasis in Educational Leadership, and a Doctorate in Educational Leadership. Her doctoral work is in the area of dual language immersion equity, access and K-12 leadership.

Dr. Fernandez is passionate about collaborating with educational partners to ensure youth have access to school supports and transition to high school with an achievable plan for success in college or trade school, military service, or direct entry to the world of work. During her tenure as director, Lakeside Union School District continues to gradually increase positive student attendance districtwide; she oversees the implementation of school safety initiatives including safety meetings that engage key community leaders and site administrators; health education programming, including youth mental health. as well as systems that maintain and promote campus safety.

Dr. Fernandez was appointed by the San Diego County Board of Supervisors to a advisory board member role to the San Diego County Child & Family Strengthening Unit. Also she is a non-profit volunteer member of MANA de San Diego where she is leads on the Tías Leadership Committee and co-leads a summer college success institute for first-generation San Diego County Latina college students. She currently is a member of ACSA Region 18 and CALSA Region 6, supporting legislative advocacy efforts at the regional and state level on behalf of the students and educators in San Diego and Imperial Counties. Hello! My name is Melanee Stevens, and I am the Project Director for the Chehalis Native Connection SAMHSA Grant with the Behavioral Health Department. Currently, my job focus is working with the Suicide Prevention Grant and teaching traditional plant knowledge, gathering and uses for the plants. The goal of the grant is to bring activities to the community that will bring families together and the use of traditional plants in their everyday life.
My background is in education. I have my Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with a dual minor in ECE and Leadership. I have been a teacher in the regular classroom and the non-traditional classroom for many years. In Alaska I was the program a manger with the Qutekcak Native Tribe, the Native Youth Olympic and World Eskimo Indian Olympic coach, taught the indigenous games of the north to youth from first grade to high school. I also worked with the local Dance and Drum group that was made up of members from the Aleut, Alutiiq, Yupik, Inupiaq, Athabascan, Tlingit, and Tsimshian people.
Throughout my career I have worn many hats have worn many hats from teacher to program manager to board member and educational advocate. My most important job has been a mother and grandmother.
Born and raised in Maine, moved to Alaska on the south-central peninsula, traveled the ALCAN twice to Washington, lived in Colorado for a spell and finally came back to Washington to settle down with my daughter and grandson.

I am a 1991 Graduate of the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD. During my time as a Naval Officer, I served as Assistant Operations Officer onboard the USS Monongahela, Assistant Platoon Commander at SEAL Team FOUR, and a Platoon Commander at Seal Team ONE.

In 2003 I joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) where I investigated International Terrorist Organizations out of the FBI’s flagship office in New York City and also served as a member of the FBI’s New York SWAT Team.

In 2010 I was attached to the United States Army’s 75th Ranger Regiment while serving as a Special Agent for the FBI. While deployed I participated in extensive combat operations and was subsequently presented with the FBI’s second highest award for valor, the Shield of Bravery, for my actions on the battlefield.

I left the FBI after 13 years of service to begin my leadership consulting firm, Ice Cold Leader, in 2016. I have worked with executives and teams from Fortune 100 companies, professional sports organizations, small technical startups, and individual executives across a vast array of industries around the world as the Founder of Ice Cold Leader.

Throughout my educational journey spanning over 12 years, I've dedicated myself to nurturing success both academically and socially for the staff and students I've had the privilege to work with. This commitment has been at the core of my professional character, driving me to continually evolve and grow, both personally and professionally.

My teaching experience in 4th and 5th grade classrooms has provided me with invaluable insights into the diverse needs of students and the complexities of classroom dynamics.
