Having experienced sexual assault, she has transformed her lived experience into a powerful force for advocacy and reform, particularly for marginalized communities. Her journey—from survivor to leader—has been defined by resilience, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to creating systems that empower, uplift, and protect those in need.

Today, Christina serves as Chief Executive of External Relations for BWJP, a national nonprofit at the forefront of systemic reform in the criminal and civil justice systems for survivors of gender-based violence. Her leadership has been pivotal, transforming BWJP’s reach and impact through strategic partnerships, innovative communications, and an astounding 1500% increase in funding, including numerous six- and seven-figure foundation grants. Christina’s work at BWJP is deeply informed by her personal journey, and she uses her voice and experience to amplify the needs of survivors across the country.

Before joining BWJP, Christina’s unique background shaped her career in criminal justice. As a former prosecutor focused on sexual violence cases, she connected with survivors on a personal level, understanding both their pain and resilience. In her roles at the DC Office of the Attorney General (OAG), she implemented impactful youth policies and programs, including the DC Teen Dating Violence Summit, which empowered youth to navigate issues of consent and safety. Earlier, as Assistant Chief for the Criminal and Juvenile Section, she supervised attorneys, shaped criminal justice policy, and co-developed the Special Victims Unit, becoming an advocate within a system she aimed to reform from the inside out.

Christina’s commitment to change goes beyond legal advocacy. She is a passionate mentor and advocate for Emerging Leaders, fostering the next generation of changemakers. She has led training sessions for large audiences, designed federal and private-sector workshops, and developed dynamic programs that help leaders connect, support, and amplify their voices. Her workshops have empowered Emerging Leaders across various industries, equipping them with tools to navigate complex challenges, champion innovation, and make meaningful contributions. Dr. Arzumanian is the long-time Director of the USC College Advising Corps for the Center for Enrollment Research, Policy and Practice (CERPP) at the USC Rossier School of Education. For twenty years he has been a youth worker in the areas of mentoring, college access, after school, juvenile justice and street outreach. At USC, he has overseen the growth of the program to directly serve over 10,000 students annually in multiple school districts across Los Angeles county. In its ten years of existence, USC CAC has directly assisted over 70,000 students to enroll in college. During that time Ara earned his doctorate in higher education administration from the Rossier School of Education, earned the staff recognition award “for creating a culture of community,” was a fellow of the Los Angeles Scholars Investment Fund Young Men of Color 2019, and was awarded USC’s Order of Arete medal for excellence in leadership and community service.

Prior to joining CERPP, Ara oversaw three youth programs and the development of a new mentoring program in Boyle Heights. Previous to that experience, he was the Vice President of Programs for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles overseeing several programs and managing mentoring for over 1,500 matches. He developed a new corporate partnership model with Union Bank winning the National Rising Star Award. Before joining Big Brothers Big Sisters, Ara had been tapped by the international non-profit, Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU), to direct the Generation Next Mentorship Program (GenNext). As the director of GenNext, Ara assembled the team that grew the program five times in size and increased its services to students with the award of a prestigious US Department of Education Grant. During his tenure at GenNext, Ara served as the chair of the Glendale Healthy Start Collaborative and sat on Glendale Unified School District’s Student Attendance Review Board and the violence prevention committees of five schools. It was his experience as a youth outreach worker with the City of Glendale’s Youth Outreach Program that brought Ara to AGBU’s attention. He was a member of the three-person team that developed it from the ground up, providing intensive case management to students facing high risk factors. Specializing in violence intervention/prevention, direct street outreach, runaway recovery and cross-cultural peace-making, Ara and the team worked with over 1,800 students in five years. I am a postdoctoral researcher at TU Delft, The Netherlands. My current research on the RePlanIT project explores the ways the Semantic Web and specifically knowledge graphs can be utilised to support trusted and FAIR data sharing in the Circular Economy domain, while keeping humans-in-the-loop.

I completed my PhD in the Semantic Technology Institute (STI) Innsbruck, Department of Computer Science, University of Innsbruck, Austria. My doctoral research focused on supporting machines and humans in making sense of informed consent, for sensor data sharing in smart cities, with knowledge graphs. My work on the smashHit H2020 and CampaNeo FFG projects, helped bridge the gap between the Semantic Web, Human-Computer Interaction and Privacy fields. Prior to that, I received an MSc in Advanced Computer Science from Cardiff University, The United Kingdom, where I also completed my BSc in Computer Science and Visual Computing.
As of 2023, I am part of European Data Protection Board’s pool of experts in new technologies, privacy and data protection.
