He is a Product Designer at VerifyMe, where he designs QoreID, an identity verification platform integrated by approximately 60% of Nigeria's commercial banks. QoreID processes over 1 million verifications a month for more than 400 API clients. He also designs Gova, a last-mile verification platform now past 670,000 completed verifications. Hi, I'm Scott, a creator of open source software, jazz musician, yoga teacher, and founder.

Music is my most formal background, having studied jazz and classical music. I worked for years as a freelance guitarist with the ability to improvise in various styles and sight-read sheet music, sheet music being a literal form of code.

Later in life, I became a software engineer, after finding that I got a similar gut feeling when writing code as I did when writing or analyzing music. I did a lot of my initial learning by translating the data structures found in music into code.

I started my career in the software startups of Austin, TX, mainly in education technology, and I eventually ended up working as a lead engineer in the enterprise for the music industry for years.

Over time, I accumulated experience owning many different kinds of projects, building modern frontends for the web, writing backend APIs, creating scalable DevOps systems for multiple teams, handling cloud architecture, and more.

I began writing thought pieces on sustainable design, diversity, and inclusivity while I was still a design student who was trying to find my colours. I actively look for opportunities to advocate for gender-inclusive design practices.

As a non-binary person, motivated by my lived experiences as a consumer and driven by my spirit as an informed UX designer, I believe that Inclusivity shouldn’t be an afterthought. I can safely say that, having been on both sides of the coin, the designer and the user in this context, empathy goes a long way. Making one feel seen and heard can be so validating, and that validation shouldn’t be something that feels extraordinary to experience. It should be normal.
