I'm the Engineering Manager at Covalynt, where I lead the infrastructure team that operates the identity and data science platform used by the legal teams at Fortune 500 corporations in their most complex litigation. This infrastructure runs under SOC 2 Type 2 and handles data of millions of people under direct legal scrutiny.

Before Covalynt I spent more than five years leading infrastructure for a SaaS provider serving 4 of the 5 largest US banks, operating under SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001, CyberEssentials+, and the security standards of major US banking.

I've been building platforms that have to hold for more than a decade. Originally from Venezuela, currently based in Mexico, my perspective on cloud is shaped by having operated infrastructure across multiple Latin American countries. My thesis: the most cost-effective technical decisions are rarely the newest. I defend "boring infrastructure" because I've seen too many teams consumed by the technical debt of recent choices that didn't deliver value.

AWS Certified. Leader of AWS User Group Mixtli in Cholula, Mexico. I speak in both English and Spanish about cloud engineering in regulated environments, cloud architecture decisions, technical leadership, and the realities of running cloud operations from outside the US.

Steven P McCormick

Steven P McCormick

Steven P McCormick has built a career that reflects steady discipline in both law and finance. His office in Simi Valley presents two defining milestones. His law degree from St. Thomas University is displayed beside his Master’s diploma in Piano Performance from Boise State University. During his graduate studies, he focused on the works of classical composers such as Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin, Bach, and Debussy. His academic journey shows that patience and preparation guide both music and retirement planning.

Steven was born in Miami, Florida. In 1992, he completed his English degree at the University of Florida. After graduation, he attended law school and earned his Juris Doctor. By 1995, he established his own practice, focusing on bankruptcy law, wills, trusts, and estate planning. For seven years, he worked closely with clients during financially stressful times. He helped them understand their options and create practical legal solutions. During this period, he continued his advanced musical studies and completed his Master’s degree in Piano Performance.

In 2003, McCormick transitioned into commercial litigation in Costa Mesa. He represented Newport Beach clients in business and investment disputes. As he handled more cases, he observed that many conflicts could have been reduced through stronger financial planning. He came to believe that proactive retirement planning and structured financial decisions often prevent costly litigation. This insight led him to expand his professional focus.

In 2005, Steven P. McCormick became a financial advisor at Citicorp Investment Services in San Mateo. His estate planning experience gave him working knowledge of probate law, wealth transfer trusts, and special needs trusts. Many Silicon Valley clients held concentrated technology stock positions and required guidance that connected legal structure with financial strategy. By 2006, his partnership ranked as the top-performing at the firm.

From 2007 to 2009, Steven worked at JP Morgan Chase & Co. in Burbank. He earned placement on the Top Producer Committee for two consecutive years. He served media professionals and small business owners whose income levels often fluctuated. His method remained consistent. He first worked to understand each client’s goals and financial circumstances, then developed a retirement planning strategy tailored to long-term stability.

Between 2010 and 2016, McCormick served as a telecom employee at Wescom Credit Union in Sherman Oaks. During those six years, he became the top-producing credit union advisor nationally in total revenue. In 2010, he also resumed practicing estate planning law on a part-time basis. This combination allowed him to draft estate documents while advising clients on Social Security timing, Medicare enrollment, IRMAA planning, and comprehensive retirement planning.

In 2013, Steven partnered with two petroleum engineers to establish Applied Gas Lift, LLC in Metairie, Louisiana. The company focused on restoring abandoned oil and gas wells to production. He oversaw operations until 2017.

In 2016, Steven P McCormick became an independent financial advisor with Advisor Group, specializing in retirement planning, Social Security optimization, and estate planning. He later offered free educational seminars through the Foundation for Financial Independence on Social Security and income planning strategies. In January 2025, he launched McCormick Capital in Simi Valley. Steven continues to provide retirement planning and estate planning services grounded in decades of legal and financial experience.
