She is at work on her first book, American Muslim and the Politics of Secularity, which asks how a “sense of humor” came to be a prized trait of the modern secular subject and why present-day Muslims are consistently configured as lacking this comportment. Through a study of the American Muslim standup comedians, she contends that Muslim legibility depends on situating Islam and within the logics of model secular subjecthood and the register of race. Her work has been supported by the Asian American Religions Research Initiative, the Center for Islam in the Contemporary World, the UNC Chapel Hill Asian American Center, the Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, and the Pauli Murray Center for History and Social Justice. Sue Gander

Sue Gander serves as the Director of U.S. Connective Mobility at the World Resources Institute (WRI). This includes leading the Electric School Bus Initiative and Ports of the Future and decarbonization efforts across the medium and heavy-duty vehicle sectors more broadly, working with owner, operators, manufacturers, charging providers, utilities, policy makers and community organizations.
Prior to WRI, Sue was the Managing Director of Policy for the Electrification Coalition where she worked to accelerate the adoption of EVs at scale across the transportation sector, including advancing federal and state policies and leading on freight electrification and vehicle to grid initiatives. For over a decade, Sue directed the Energy, Infrastructure and Environment Division at the National Governors Association, spearheading policy support for the transformation of the energy and transportation sectors. Sue also served at the U.S. EPA and at the Center for Clean Air Policy where she led initiatives on clean energy, air quality and climate change.
Sue earned a MA in Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin, with a Certificate in Energy Analysis and Policy and a capstone project on alternative fuel vehicles, and a BA cum laude in Public Policy from Brown University.
Sue is the founder and chair of the Women of Electric Vehicles DC Chapter. She volunteers with the National Park Service C&O Canal Bike Patrol, Kensington (Maryland) Racial Justice Committee and St. Camillus Food Pantry. She resides in Kensington, Maryland.

Sameer Shende

Sameer Shende serves as a Research Professor and the Director of the Performance Research Lab at the University of Oregon and the President and Director of ParaTools, Inc. (USA) and ParaTools, SAS (France). He serves as the Technical Lead of the Extreme-scale Scientific Software Stack (E4S), TAU, and PDT projects. His research interests include scientific software stacks, performance instrumentation, compiler optimizations, measurement, and analysis tools for HPC.
