I work at the boundary between machine learning research and semantic communication -- interested in how AI models learn to represent meaning, how much of that meaning survives when you compress or transmit it, and what breaks when you push systems to their limits.
I enjoy asking questions that sit slightly outside the obvious: how many dimensions does a model actually need? Do different architectures converge toward the same internal structure? Where does information-theoretic thinking meet deep learning in useful ways?
Outside of research, I'm an active competitive programmer and stay closely engaged with what's happening across the ML and AI space -- from model efficiency and representation learning to the broader question of how intelligence, artificial or otherwise, organises knowledge.
I'm equally comfortable in a technical deep-dive or explaining ideas to a general audience -- and I genuinely enjoy making hard concepts feel intuitive.

During over 10 years of career as a SAP consultant, I worked on almost every SAP module ever released. My ABAP code written in Walldorf is probably still used by many companies. I hired, trained and managed tens of great technical consultants. Then I spent 6 years in the IoT and Edge AI business, building technical team while taking care of business development and delivering custom hardware solutions to clients on 4 continents, using (again) many technologies and programming languages.

Brian Platt is Partner and Director of Public Policy for UMusic Hotels Development (UMHD), a real estate development company created in partnership with Universal Music Group. The organization develops music and entertainment hubs in cities across North America, bringing together culture, economic development, and collaboration between the public and private sectors. Before joining UMHD, Brian spent 12 years working in city government, most notably as City Manager for Kansas City, Missouri, and Jersey City, New Jersey.
