Sreekanth Putta is a Senior Software Engineer at SAP Concur and one of the early people inside SAP pushing AI into day-to-day engineering work. Over the last couple of years, he has built internal agents, workflow automation systems and MCPs that actually make developers faster. Because of this, he naturally became the “AI person” many teams go to, and he now runs regular internal sessions where he explains concepts, shows demos, and helps engineers use AI in real projects. His contributions earned him recognition as one of the torchbearers for applied AI inside SAP.

He got into software almost a decade ago out of a simple fascination with how code can solve problems at impossible speeds. Then OpenAI’s moment hit and it reignited that curiosity. Since then, he’s been experimenting constantly, building small tools and turning them into practical systems that people around him actually use.

Outside of work, he enjoys skydiving and tennis. And like many engineers hooked on AI right now, he ends up staying awake longer than he should, sometimes missing sleep or even catching a nap in the office or his car — all to make time for the zillion things he wants to learn and build.

I'm a Forward Deployed Engineer at IBM, and the simplest way I describe what I do is: I close the gap between an AI investment and a Generative/Agentic AI solution actually running in production. That gap is where most enterprises stall, not because of a lack of ambition, but because advisory and consulting can only take you so far. The FDE role is different. Many times people told me that I should focus on one system or one programming language and become an expert in it. I never liked to listen to such advice.

During over 10 years of career as a SAP consultant, I worked on almost every SAP module ever released. My ABAP code written in Walldorf is probably still used by many companies. I hired, trained and managed tens of great technical consultants. Then I spent 6 years in the IoT and Edge AI business, building technical team while taking care of business development and delivering custom hardware solutions to clients on 4 continents, using (again) many technologies and programming languages.
