Chidera Okonkwo-Samuel is an aspiring geologist passionate about improving the African energy landscape.

She engages in a range of activities cutting across economics and finance, management consulting, and international business, to develop a holistic approach to energy and geosciences. She interned at SLB (formerly Schlumberger) where she drove and executed a 6S Lean project that improved one of the sections in SLB’s Port Harcourt Operations Base. She is a Nigerian Higher Education Foundation (NHEF) Scholar, of the fellowship class of 2023. She is a student member of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG), Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), where she was a mentee in the one-year EAGE International Mentoring Program from 2022 to 2023 and a University of Lagos participant in the AAPG Imperial Barrel 2025 Awards Global Basin Evaluation.

In her effort to simplify technical Geology concepts and drive energy leadership online, Chidera launched a newsletter on LinkedIn, The G-Bloc, where shares insights on different sectors and value chains in Energy in Africa. From hydrocarbons and geological storage mechanisms for Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) to geothermal energy reservoirs and hydrogen energy, she analyzes the geologist’s role in developing these energy sectors and the global energy mix and provides readers with a well-informed geological insight about energy.

Mumini Olarewaju BUSARI has been with TotalEnergies EP Nigeria for 19 years. He obtained a second-class upper degree in geology from University of Ilorin. He earned a master’s degree in petroleum geosciences from the University of London and Diploma of Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine and a Ph.D. in Geology from University of Ilorin.
He started his career as a synthesis geologist in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He subsequently worked as an exploration geologist for 14 years and reservoir geologist since 2020. He has been involved in different exploration, appraisal & developments subjects from the onshore and deep water domains.

Do you remember learning Algebra in school for the first time? I remember sitting in my desk feeling dazed and confused as Mrs. Owens jots down an equation, 4000x + 18 = 4.5. Now solve for X, she says… as I think to myself “I am never going to figure out this X, let alone Algebra.” Mrs. Owens, was a fantastic teacher and noticed my confusion. She helped me out before school one day to solve for X and something stuck. I GOT IT! From that point, I ate mathematics up. I graduated from college with a mathematics degree thanks to hard work, studying and solving 4000x + 18 = 4.5.

Fast forward and I am at an AMAZING company Microsoft where challenges like 4000x + 18 = 4.5 are everywhere. My job is to make solving for X for our incredible recent university hires, easier… as well as, equip them with the habits to be successful and impact our customers and partners globally. In my past 18 years at Microsoft and prior experiences, I have fueled that passion to help others develop and grow their talent.

Remember that equation, 4000x + 18 = 4.5. I have been working hard to grow the 4000+ Aspirers that are recent university hires (the 4000) for over 18 years (the 18) to help Microsoft grab the 4.5 trillion dollar opportunity we have in this new era of AI.
