I am a 40 year old woman, wife and mom of 2. I live in Denmark north of Copenhagen and work as a Software Engineer, more specifically , an Android developer, in the Pharma company Novo Nordisk, where we build healthcare apps for patients. I have a bachelors degree in Physiotherapy since 2018 and i hold a masters degree in Software Design since January 2023. While i was studying Physiotherapy i participated in a research project to create a mobile application for young adolescents with diabetes 1, with the users/patients in focus. On my master i specialised in technical interaktion design which is a mix of mobile development for Android and the entire process of designing and developing software. In my thesis i created a prototype of an Android app for Physiotherapists where I did everything from user research to design, implementation and usability tests. I have not worked with the term "Accessibility" for many years, but I have been working patient-centered since i started studying Physiotherapy in 2014. This is one of the reasons why I have build up a huge passion for accessibility. Currently I am on a mission to incorporate accessibility in all the digital products that we produce in our big organisation. I am holding this kind of presentation in many forums for many people, as well as facilitating workshops to teach entire project teams how to always think about accessibility and easier implement it. It is on this mission I discovered an extremely relevant topic that is missing. I believe that illuminating this could benefit many in their everyday work with digital products. I have already done this presentation at an internal design summit hosting 150 designers from multiple departments all over the corporation. All of the presentations has received great feedback, some even wrote that it was the best they had seen in a long time. Furthermore it has opened eyes on backend developers to take more responsibility to implement accessibility and on designers to try to understand the technical perspective on a deeper level. And what i really want is to step away from the mindset that accessibility only exists with the designers. Additionally I offer concrete methods and tools that you can take into your work straight after the presentation.

In my free time, when i don't take care of my two small boys, I play basketball, do a lot of different creative projects and take care of the garden in our Allotment. I also have ADHD so besides my passion for equal rights and opportunities, I personally struggle with heavy content components/apps and get easily affected by cognitive overload.

I represent a new and innovative field in the most traditional subject in medicine: Clinical Anatomy. A science without narrow specialty restrictions, fully multidisciplinary. My aim is to bring anatomical knowledge into the context of diagnostic and therapeutic (surgical) application. To translate basic research into clinical application. To teach science and clinical approaches.

I have experience in translating MedTech into clinical applications—also as an entrepreneur.

Milestones of my activities:
* The establishment of a worldwide renowned surgical training centre with 12 complete OR-settings on 2500+ square meter. Annually more than 2500 surgeons from all surgical disciplines take part in more than 100 international training courses.
* The establishment of a platform to use human bodies for research and development in the field of medical technology in an environment that ethically complies with the recommendations of the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA). More than 140 MedTech companies, medical societies and medical academies use the opportunity to test and develop medical products and surgical approaches on donated bodies.
* Pioneer work in the field of digitalisation of academic teaching and CME-certified continued education. An operating room has been connected to a professional tv-studio. More than 50,000 students, physicians and medical professionals registered for the digital, non-profit, series Sectio chirurgica.

Dr. Teresa Owens Gardner Tyson, DNP, MSN, FNP-BC, FAANP, is a preeminent figure in rural healthcare. She currently leads St. Mary’s Health Wagon as its President and CEO. Born into the modest surroundings of a coal miner's family in Appalachia, her upbringing was steeped in firsthand experiences of the healthcare challenges that pervade rural communities. These formative years laid the groundwork for her unwavering dedication to advancing medical care in underserved areas.

Under Dr. Tyson's visionary leadership, the Health Wagon has flourished, evolving from a mobile clinic into a comprehensive healthcare network. This network now proudly includes two stationary clinics, several mobile units, a pharmacy, and a dental clinic, serving as a lifeline for thousands of Appalachian residents. The effectiveness of this expansion was highlighted in 2024 when the organization managed nearly 29,000 patient interactions, demonstrating its critical role in the community.

Dr. Tyson has been instrumental in integrating innovative technologies to enhance healthcare delivery. Additionally, she introduced the first FAA-approved drone delivery system for pharmaceuticals in the U.S., revolutionizing how essential medications are distributed in remote areas.

The Move Mountains Medical Mission, spearheaded annually by Dr. Tyson, is a cornerstone of her healthcare philosophy. This event provides comprehensive, free healthcare services to thousands, addressing acute medical needs while emphasizing the importance of preventative care. Her belief that healthcare is a fundamental human right is manifest in her commitment to these extensive outreach efforts, which aim to elevate overall community health standards.

Dr. Tyson’s initiatives have not only reshaped healthcare delivery in Appalachian, Virginia, but have also captured the attention of a broader audience. Her work has earned her spots in national and international discussions, where she advocates for rural health issues at platforms such as the United Nations and the World Health Organization. She has recognized the need for sustained medical services in rural areas and has established educational collaborations with over 50 institutions. These programs immerse students in the realities of rural healthcare, preparing them to continue the mission of the Health Wagon and ensure its longevity and impact.

Looking forward, Dr. Tyson is dedicated to further expanding the capabilities of the Health Wagon. Her plans include enhancing diagnostic services, increasing the availability of specialist care, and incorporating advanced medical technologies. These initiatives are designed to provide holistic and continuous healthcare to Appalachia, ensuring that the region’s residents receive the best possible care.
