Alison Schrag

Alison Schrag

Alison Schrag is a partner at Sherman Atlas Sylvester & Stamelman LLP, where she focuses her practice on trusts and estates planning and administration. She guides families, entrepreneurs, and fiduciaries through trust and estate planning, contested account proceedings, and related proceedings. The firm operates in New York and New Jersey, providing services across a range of areas, including estate planning, corporate law, internal investigations, banking and financial services, litigation, and tax planning.

With nearly twenty years of experience, she is admitted to practice in both New York and New Jersey. She began her career as a litigation associate, representing financial institutions and corporate trustees in fiduciary and commercial proceedings. Before joining her current firm, she was a partner at a New York-based trust and estate practice, where she gained deep experience advising families and fiduciaries. In that role, she worked closely with clients to create long‑term planning strategies and advocated for their interests when contested proceedings arose.

Alison Schrag of New York works closely with families, entrepreneurs, and owners of closely held or mid‑sized businesses to design and implement tailored estate and trust planning strategies. She focuses on ensuring that these strategies reduce taxes, facilitate the orderly distribution of assets, and anticipate potential incapacity. By providing her clients with an understanding of their options, she guides them toward making informed decisions that align with their long-term objectives and personal circumstances. Her clients range from first‑generation entrepreneurs and owners of family businesses to those with charitable interests or cross‑border planning needs.

She has deep experience representing executors, trustees, personal representatives, and beneficiaries in contested proceedings, including contested account proceedings and contested kinship hearings. In contested proceedings, she works closely with families to protect their interests and advocate for their rights. In contested kinship hearings, she guides families through presenting genealogical evidence and testimony required to confirm their right to inherit. In every matter she handles, she ensures that her clients have a voice and that their interests are represented and protected.

Alison Schrag is a trusted voice in the area of trust and estate planning. She is frequently invited to speak to wealth advisory firms and their clients about core estate planning strategies, federal and state tax considerations, advanced planning for high‑net‑worth families, and succession planning for family‑owned businesses. She earned her BA from Colgate University, graduating with honors, and her JD from Brooklyn Law School, where she served as an editor of the Brooklyn Law Review and was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society. She has dedicated time to charitable efforts, serving as a crisis counselor and supporting food pantries and coat drives throughout New York. She lives in New York with her husband and two sons and spends her free time traveling, hiking, running, and volunteering.

Christopher has over twenty years of experience in payments, with deep exposure to how merchants, processors, and platforms navigate fraud, risk, and compliance requirements. He also spent five years building a startup focused on improving how merchants achieve and maintain PCI compliance, gaining firsthand experience with both the technical and operational challenges of regulated environments.

Although that company did not succeed, the time spent building it provided direct insight into how compliance frameworks work in practice and where they fail under real-world conditions.

Christopher now works in workforce and staffing operations at Express Employment Professionals, where documentation, verification, and trust directly impact hiring decisions, reimbursements, and employee outcomes. His perspective is grounded in practical experience across payments, compliance, and workforce systems rather than academic theory.

Steven P McCormick

Steven P McCormick

Steven P. McCormick has built a career that reflects steady discipline in both law and finance. His office in Simi Valley presents two defining milestones. His law degree from St. Thomas University is displayed beside his Master’s diploma in Piano Performance from Boise State University. During his graduate studies, he focused on the works of classical composers such as Beethoven, Liszt, Chopin, Bach, and Debussy. His academic journey shows that patience and preparation guide both music and retirement planning.

Steven P McCormick was born in Miami, Florida. In 1992, he completed his English degree at the University of Florida. After graduation, he attended law school and earned his Juris Doctor. By 1995, he established his own practice, focusing on bankruptcy law, wills, trusts, and estate planning. For seven years, he worked closely with clients during financially stressful times. He helped them understand their options and create practical legal solutions. During this period, he continued his advanced musical studies and completed his Master’s degree in Piano Performance.

In 2003, Steven transitioned into commercial litigation in Costa Mesa. He represented Newport Beach clients in business and investment disputes. As he handled more cases, he observed that many conflicts could have been reduced through stronger financial planning. He came to believe that proactive retirement planning and structured financial decisions often prevent costly litigation. This insight led him to expand his professional focus.

In 2005, McCormick became a financial advisor at Citicorp Investment Services in San Mateo. His estate planning experience gave him working knowledge of probate law, wealth transfer trusts, and special needs trusts. Many Silicon Valley clients held concentrated technology stock positions and required guidance that connected legal structure with financial strategy. By 2006, his partnership ranked as the top-performing at the firm.

From 2007 to 2009, Steven worked at JP Morgan Chase & Co. in Burbank. He earned placement on the Top Producer Committee for two consecutive years. He served media professionals and small business owners whose income levels often fluctuated. His method remained consistent. He first worked to understand each client’s goals and financial circumstances, then developed a retirement planning strategy tailored to long-term stability.

Between 2010 and 2016, McCormick served as a telecom employee at Wescom Credit Union in Sherman Oaks. During those six years, he became the top-producing credit union advisor nationally in total revenue. In 2010, he also resumed practicing estate planning law on a part-time basis. This combination allowed him to draft estate documents while advising clients on Social Security timing, Medicare enrollment, IRMAA planning, and comprehensive retirement planning.

In 2013, Steven partnered with two petroleum engineers to establish Applied Gas Lift, LLC in Metairie, Louisiana. The company focused on restoring abandoned oil and gas wells to production. He oversaw operations until 2017.

In 2016, he became an independent financial advisor with Advisor Group, specializing in retirement planning, Social Security optimization, and estate planning. He later offered free educational seminars through the Foundation for Financial Independence on Social Security and income planning strategies. In January 2025, he launched McCormick Capital in Simi Valley. Steven P McCormick continues to provide retirement planning and estate planning services grounded in decades of legal and financial experience.
