"Keep your face always toward the sunshine - and shadows will fall behind you."
- Walt Whitman

With 5+ years of professional experience in mainframes and game, application development, there was a zeal to unfurl newer dimensions and hone my skill-set, leading to my decision to pursue (Post Graduate) Masters in Computer Science. The course helped me gain insight into technological concepts like AI(Artificial Intelligence), ML(Machine Learning with an overview of Deep learning, Neural Network), IoT(Internet of Things), DS(Distributed Systems), Security & Privacy, Software Engineering.

In my previous life, I have spent nearly three years working over mainframes with technologies like COBOL, JCL, DB2, REXX over z/OS platform at Cognizant Technology Solutions. This involved maintaining and implementing the back-end for financial firms and banks over mainframes. Following which I decided to challenge myself with game, application development domain to satiate my quest of knowing the architecture and end-to-end functionality of game and application development, working in a start-up. I worked nearly two and a half years in the start-up as a senior developer using technologies like Unity3D for game development, Android-Studio for android application development, Swift-2 for iOS application development, Google and BING API for REST services etc.

Working in gaming industry made me curious about AI and how to scale real-life systems that used sensors to capture data to process humongous information and if AI can be used on the edges for smarter functioning which motivated me to get back to college for Master's.

I had always been curious and fascinated by the functionality of human brain leading to human intelligence. Thus, leading to my interest of pursuing a career in AI, Machine Learning, Deep Learning.

Jeremy Georges-Filteau

Jeremy Georges-Filteau

Jeremy obtained a bachelor’s of bioinformatics from Université Laval during which he did an exchange at Université de Strasbourg in the Master’s of Integrative structural biology and bioinformatics and completed an internship at The Hyve developing a user interface prototype for TranSMART. Following this, he completed a Master’s in computer science at McGill University by developing a machine learning algorithm based on phylogenetic networks that has significant advantages over commonly used genetic assignment methods. Jeremy joined The Hyve in 2018 to pursue a PhD within the context of the AiPBAND project and, more generally, his passion for multidisciplinary science.

The aim of this ESR project is to develop a big-data powered diagnostic infrastructure for brain cancer prediction. The platform will be deployed and run on cloud services . The platform will include a data warehouse for integrating clinical and omics data. This includes data generated by innovative biosensors, developed by WP2. The components of the platform will be designed as flexible microservices. Separation of concerns will facilitate high performance, security and scalability. One of these services will be the prediction algorithms, developed in close collaboration with ESR-11 at IC. Patients, clinician and potential industrial client will gain access via any device to their results on an intuitive user interface.

To achieve these goals, large quantities of health data is required at every step. For both simpy software testing or improving machine learning accuracy, quality data remains hard to get. The scientific opportunities locked-in the massive amounts of health data collected are inestimable. The growing concerns towards data privacy will only only complicate the issue.

Anonymization is generally employed to prevent misuse of private data. Anonymization trades data utility for privacy, but does not fully prevent reidentification. This means accessing data requires eminent academic credentials and resources. If real data is lacking for developments, delays and errors can have consequences on critical health informatics. The alternative is to produce synthetic data, thereby avoiding the privacy issues. Rigid and error prone statistical models have long been the only generative algorithms for this purpose.

Recently, generative adversarial networks have demonstrated their ability to produce indistinguishable synthetic data. Synthetic data has been gaining traction rapidly in medical imaging applications. However, due to certain complexities of observational health, the idea is only starting to gain interest. This project will explore GAN methods to produce synthetic health data that address these complexities. In addition to evaluating they gains provided to the development of the diagnostic platform.

As a child, I spent many evenings in front of my PC coding and building cool projects for my eyes only. After the realization set in that I will not be making it as a competitive swimmer (wasn’t even close), I found it rewarding to create and design ideas that can benefit others.

Now, I put that passion for technology to work as a Computer Vision & Deep Learning researcher for Intuitive.

Before life at Intuitive, I was a Computer Vision and Deep Learning Lead at CommonGround-AI and Mantis Vision, where I specialized in developing cutting edge 3D imaging technology.

An additional venture I am very proud of was taking part as a system engineer at Signa sealing system which I founded. At Signa I was the sole engineer responsible for development of hardware, firmware and software. Today Signa sealing systems are installed in more than 250 Semi trailers preventing fuel theft and adulteration.

Jason Hornady has dedicated more than twenty-five years to influencing the evolution of the firearms and ammunition industry, merging his sharp business insight with a deep appreciation for shooting sports. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated remarkable proficiency in business management, marketing, and the strategic development of sporting goods ventures. His long-standing commitment to the industry is a testament to his ability to innovate while staying true to the foundational principles that define responsible firearm practices.

As vice president at a prominent ammunition manufacturing company, Jason has played a pivotal role in transforming the family-run operation into a dominant force in bullet and ammunition production. His efforts have spanned advancements in reloading equipment and the development of secure storage solutions, focusing on quality and performance. Under his leadership, the company has seen expansive growth, with Hornady guiding the way through product innovation and an unyielding dedication to excellence across all facets of the business.
