Sahr Gevao

Sahr Gevao

My name is SAHR GEVAO, a Sierra Leonean born in Barbah, in the republic of Guinea during the refugee period. I am a kissi by tribe, a Christian by religion and I hail from Yibeima, Mano Sewallu Section, Luawa Chiefdom, Kailahun District, Eastern Sierra Leone. I started my primary school education at the Kailahun District Education Committee Primary School, Mamuto Njagor upon our return to sierra Leone after the war ended in 2003. my performance at primary school was exceptional.
I grew up in YIBEIMA .I was up brought in a home where discipline has its pride of place making me to become humble, obedient, honest, diligent ,magnanimous and even brainy boy where I exercised these attributes to my peers and elderly ones and these has to this day ,brought me this far.
My parents do farming as their livelihood which I equally do help them in especially after school at my primary school level and on weekends and during holidays during my secondary school education and even university level. I do gardening of varying crops ;pineapples, bananas, maize etc .I loved farming so much to the extent that it became one of my best hobbies .i was very much intrigued in growing crops. I lived a typical rural African life, committing myself fully to the customs, traditions and norms of my locals. It is not a boost, but I was among the two best behaved children of our time. I was every parents wish; a child. I do best in farming, academy and my social interaction conforms to our culture.
I did my junior and senior secondary education at the Great National Secondary School (Junior and Senior) Kailahun from JSS1 to SSS4 then .Maintaining the same glory I had at primary school. After my first attempt of the West African senior secondary school certificate examination, I was among the first two best performing pupils in the district. But my result could not permit me to do a degree programme at any tertiary institution, compelling me to do a re-sit of the exam. I was left with one option that is to relocate and look for a greener pastures.
I migrated to Freetown to re-sit the exam where I stayed with my uncle. I enrolled into the Great Government Rokel Secondary School, Tower Hill, Freetown. Still vastly strong in my academic spirit. I also was among the two best performing science pupils at the time. One thing I loved most about the school was its motto” PERSEVERANCE” probing into the full meaning of it gave me more courage and confidence to further pursue my dreams regardless of the ups and downs that I may have encountered in life.
I was on holiday in the village(Yibeima) prior to the release of our results with zero hope of enrolling into the University even if the result could come out successful for me. Months on, my uncle called me and told me I have had my university requirement. I had mixed feelings; flamboyantly happy for my success in the exam and melancholy for where I will have the financial support to further my tertiary education .since, my parents cannot afford to take care of my university expenses .my friend Bello and I started thinking of enrolling into the military which was not any of my dream carriers anyway. A month later, the friend told me of an advert by one organization named FAMILIES WITHOUT BORDERS which helps pupils with University requirement who cannot afford to pay for their university tuition fees, housing and feeding. I was very happy about the news . We prepared for the interview and I was among the few fortunate ones.
I went through a probationary period during which our behaviors and conducts were being monitored closely as the organization had set criteria (values) aside going through the interview stage which is the preliminary stage. They operate on those values fully with no compromise.
Those values were; Love Integrity, Excellence and Service and INTEGRITY was the prime value. Which most Africans completely lack. Several community services were rendered by us in different parts of the country .That enables me to interact with people of different cultures, tribes, religions ,regions etc. The probationary period lasted for about nine months .the organization has its headquarters In Makeni.it sends students to both University Of Makeni And Njala University.
I was chosen to do a bachelor’s degree with honors in AGRICULTURAL ENGINEERING at the great Njala University. Also agriculture was among my dream progarmmes because of my unending quest to cushion food security both within the country and across the world.
I enrolled in September, 2019.during that time Njala was ranked the best university in Sierra Leone and to this day that ranking still stands. I coupled my university studies with agricultural work, having over twenty (20) acres plantation of cacao, coffee, kola, pear, banana and a separate acre of banana. I also cultivate swamp rice of two (2) acres each year .I do all of these to keep my dreams alive.
My aspirations now are further my tertiary education and to see how I can transcend that knowledge in practical terms and how will that impact positively my community, country and the world at large .I
I ASK THAT GOD PAVE THE WAY FOR ME TO ACHIEVE MY GOALS.
