He also volunteers as lead engineer at Sunflower City, a nonprofit environmental organization focused on proving out nature-based solutions to flooding issues, where he is responsible for sensor network hardware and measurement instrumentation. He was previously a professor in the Bioproducts and Biosystems Engineering department at the University of Minnesota, co-director of that department’s Instrumentation and Robotics Group, and lead designer of the department’s makerspace.
