My daily motivation is knowing I personally make a difference to the future development of each and every individual. Whether that’s building high-performing teams, coaching professionals to grow their careers or supporting wellbeing and life balance.

With over a decade of experience spanning multiple industries, I’ve led large-scale teams in the gaming industry, driven sales performance in fitness and managed people and operations in hospitality. Beyond that, I’ve coached and trained apprentices, helping individuals step into careers while closing work with major organisations in transportation and facilities management. In Technology Services, I’ve helped scale businesses, guided clients with their people development strategies and enabled internal teams to thrive.

I step on stage, sharing my story and lessons, helping people see possibility in themselves and act on it.
My own journey has shaped how I show up as a leader and speaker. Having faced challenges with homelessness, prison, domestic abuse and longterm mental health, I carry a perspective that fuels my advocacy for inclusion, diversity and second chances. I’m proud to support not for profit organisations and initiatives that give people the opportunity to rebuild and succeed.

People often describe me as authentic, enthusiastic and a good listener - someone who lifts others up. I believe in feedback as a gift, the power of connection and the importance of showing up - consistently, with integrity.

Ildar Akhmetov

Educator, systems thinker, and lifelong learner. I lead the Computing Programs at Northeastern University’s Vancouver campus, where I work at the intersection of teaching, leadership, and software development. I care deeply about building systems that scale — whether that’s a capstone project, a degree program, or a set of habits that help students grow.

My background blends academia, entrepreneurship, and international experience. Before joining Northeastern, I ran a publishing business in Russia for over a decade — leading a team, streamlining operations, and building internal tools long before low-code platforms became popular. These days, I bring that same bias toward clarity, efficiency, and real-world results into how I teach and lead.

As a computer science educator, I’ve mentored hundreds of students through project-based learning, often partnering with industry and nonprofit clients. I’ve designed and taught 60+ capstone projects, developed AI-focused pathways, and created structures to help students turn their academic work into something meaningful — sometimes even startup-worthy.

I’ve been lecturing, facilitating workshops, and giving talks for over two decades — in universities, industry settings, and more recently, on stage as a Toastmaster. What makes that meaningful to me is the personal journey: I used to stutter as a kid and avoided speaking up whenever I could. These days, I find joy in clarity — not just in what I say, but in helping others articulate ideas that matter. Whether I’m teaching a technical concept or sharing a story from the classroom, I aim for engagement over perfection.

I speak and write about computer science education in the age of AI, teaching across cultures, building entrepreneurial mindsets, and how to preserve cognitive rigor without burning people out. My talks are grounded in classroom experience but often go beyond pedagogy — into leadership, mindset, and systems design.

Outside of work, I’m into distance running, slow travel, strange programming languages, and learning Spanish (with a thick Argentinian accent, apparently). I’m also raising a curious and sporty teenager, which is probably the most humbling teaching gig of all.

I currently work as a Marketing and Communications Specialist at MathWorks, where my role focuses on education marketing across India. I work extensively with institutions and stakeholders including students, faculty, and academic leadership, while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams at MathWorks to streamline processes, build communities, and scale impact.

My work involves building and managing MATLAB student communities and chapters, partnering with consortiums such as IEEE and ICT Academy, conducting seminars and community days, and leading initiatives like Smart India Hackathon and key tradeshow participations to drive brand awareness and reach. I also contribute to social media and event marketing strategies for large-scale MathWorks India events.

I joined MathWorks as an intern in 2022 after completing my MBA and converted to a full-time role. I am proud to be the first intern hired in India and one of the youngest hires globally in the Marketing vertical.

Prior to this, I completed 14+ internships across brands and institutions including Burger King, IIM Bangalore, DCM Shriram, Woovly, and multiple startups. My experience spans sales, marketing, market research, brand, growth, and digital engagements, where I contributed to revenue and business growth. During this phase, I led content and marketing teams and worked closely in Founder’s Office roles, gaining hands-on exposure to building and scaling businesses.

Over the years, I have been invited to speak to students, professionals, and startup founders on topics such as AI and Generative AI for marketers, career and internship strategy, LinkedIn optimization, resume building, and transitioning from college to corporate life. I have conducted sessions for 5,000+ learners, collaborating with organizations like Katalyst India, Delhi University and have served as a jury member for hackathons at Atria College, BMSCE Bangalore, NPS HSR, and other institutions.

I hold an integrated BTech (Computer Science) + MBA (Marketing) degree from NMIMS Mumbai, with a minor in Business Analytics. During my academic journey, I was actively involved with ACM, IEC and I am a recipient of the Meritorious Student Award, recognizing the top 1% of students at NMIMS.

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, exploring new cultures, and learning through experiences. I love reading books, decoding the human brain through research papers, listening to podcasts, and mentoring students and professionals on career growth and marketing strategy.
