Thomas Pepin

Thomas Pepin

Thomas Pepin, better known as Tom Pepin, is a Tampa Bay business leader and philanthropist whose work has influenced education, healthcare, commerce, and public safety across the region for more than four decades, and is known for his steady leadership and long-standing commitment to community service as a former President and CEO of Pepin Distributing Company. Throughout his career, he focused on building a successful enterprise while also supporting local institutions that strengthen the Tampa Bay community.

Tom Pepin returned to Florida after graduating from Middlebury College in Vermont. After completing his studies, he joined the family business and began working at Pepin Distributing Company. In 1986, he purchased the company from his father and began guiding its future direction.

Under his leadership, the company expanded into one of Florida’s largest beverage distribution operations. Over time, the business grew into an enterprise valued at about $260 million. It became an important distribution partner for major beverage manufacturers and developed a reputation for disciplined operations and reliable service throughout the region.

One of his significant contributions to Tampa Bay is the creation of the T. Pepin Hospitality Center. Tom established the facility to provide nonprofit organizations with access to a professional venue for fundraising events and community gatherings. Many charities face challenges securing affordable event spaces, and the center was designed to reduce that barrier.

Education has also been an important area of his work. When several families approached him about students who were struggling in traditional classroom environments, Thomas's family helped support the creation of Pepin Academies. These public charter schools were developed to serve students with specific learning disabilities such as dyslexia and ADHD.

For more than twenty-five years, Pepin Academies has helped thousands of students through individualized education programs that encourage confidence, accountability, and personal development. The schools provide a supportive environment where students can receive specialized instruction and guidance.

Healthcare is another area where he has made meaningful contributions. Through the Pepin Heart Institute, Tom supported cardiovascular research, patient care, and education related to heart health. These efforts have helped strengthen partnerships with healthcare institutions throughout the Tampa Bay region. His work in this area earned recognition as Healthcare Philanthropist of the Year.

Public safety has also remained an important part of his community involvement. Thomas has supported initiatives connected with the Tampa Police Department Chief's Foundation and other law enforcement programs. These programs focus on officer wellness, family support, and community outreach. His support for these initiatives was recognized when he received the Tampa Police Department Citizen of the Year award and was named the twentieth Lightning Community Hero.

Through these organizations, Thomas continues to support projects that benefit the Tampa Bay community. Rather than stepping away from leadership, he has described this period as a new phase focused on thoughtful planning and long-term impact.

Several institutions have recognized his contributions. In 2017, Tom was inducted into the Business Hall of Fame. The Florida Senate has acknowledged his service to the community on multiple occasions. The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners also honored him for decades of civic commitment. In 2023, Temple Park was renamed in recognition of the Pepin family’s contributions to the city.

Friends and colleagues often describe him as steady, direct, and loyal to the relationships he builds. His path reflects long-term dedication rather than sudden recognition. Through business leadership, community investment, and institutional support, Thomas Pepin has helped strengthen many parts of Tampa Bay, and his lasting influence continues to support the region today.

Christina Pepin

Christina Pepin

Christina Pepin, professionally known as Tina Pepin, serves as Executive Director of the Pepin Family Foundation and continues a third-generation commitment to philanthropy in Tampa Bay, Florida. Her leadership focuses on public safety, healthcare, education, and mental health initiatives that deliver measurable, lasting community impact. Through strategic partnerships and responsible oversight, she advances programs that support families, first responders, and healthcare professionals across the region.

Tina is guided by the example of her grandfather, who was allowed to attend college by a family he once served. That experience shaped his lifelong dedication to giving to givers. She works to uphold the mission embraced by both her father and grandfather, ensuring that their shared values of service and generosity continue across generations.

Over the years, she and her family have supported numerous charitable organizations in Tampa Bay. These include the Chief of Police Foundation, Tampa Police Department, the Suncoast PBA, Hands Across the Bay, Arise Alliance, Vincent Jackson Foundation, Hook A Hero, Operation Restore, and many others. These collaborations reflect a steady investment in public safety, youth development, healthcare services, and community partnerships.

Tina Pepin has also been actively involved with The Pepin Academies, founded in 1999 as a non-profit, tuition-free public charter school serving third through 12th-grade students, along with a transitional job training program for 18- to 22-year-old students. Nearly three decades later, the academies serve more than 1,200 students and over 850 graduates across campuses in Tampa, Riverview, and New Port Richey. Qualified students receive therapy at no cost, including access to social workers, mental health counselors, occupational therapists, physical therapists, sensory integration services, and speech language programs.

She served on the board of Pepin Academies for nearly three years and values the individualized learning approach that supports both academic progress and personal development. The environment fosters a sense of belonging and prepares students for future educational and career opportunities. The Foundation also contributes to community engagement through Pepin’s Hospitality Centre, offering space for culture and cuisine in Tampa Bay.

Tina actively supports the mission of the Pepin Heart Institute as part of the Foundation’s longstanding healthcare commitment. Established in 1986 by Tom and Arthur Pepin, the Institute focuses on research and patient-centered cardiac care aimed at eradicating heart disease. She continues to promote initiatives that improve cardiac outcomes and broaden access to advanced treatment options.

Public safety remains a central priority within the Foundation’s initiatives. Mental health and resiliency programs are designed to assist law enforcement officers, firefighters, paramedics, and other front-line professionals who frequently encounter traumatic events. These efforts emphasize sustainable systems of care that strengthen wellness and long-term support for first responders.

Tina Pepin believes that serving those who serve the community is essential to a strong and healthy region. During a nursing crisis in Tampa, the Foundation partnered with the University of South Florida to support young nursing professionals. It partners with the Tampa Police Department to strengthen resiliency, officer wellness, and mental health programming. It collaborates with Sun Coast Police Benevolent Association President Jonathan Vazquez and General Counsel and Executive Director Sasha Lohn, Esq., to launch a first-of-its-kind law enforcement mental health college certificate program for active and retired officers to earn college credits and an applied mental health certificate. In January 2026, she was recognized with an award for her support of Rise Tampa, the official Foundation for the Tampa Police Department.

Christina Pepin continues to foster collaboration among healthcare providers, educators, and public safety leaders throughout Tampa Bay. She has supported initiatives such as the USF Pepin Family Summer Nursing Pathway Program and the expansion of mental health resources for first responders. A 2021 graduate of Belmont University, Jack C. Massey College of Business with a Bachelor of Business Administration BBA, she also participated in the Winterline Global Education program, pitching a business venture at MIT in Boston, and studying management and international business in the United States and Asia. Through steady leadership and consistent service, she remains committed to meaningful and lasting community impact.
