Over time, his portfolio grew to include more than 800 multifamily units along with several commercial assets. During the COVID-19 period, many properties faced serious challenges, but careful leadership and planning allowed his teams to recover and return to firm performance.

Public service has remained an essential part of his life. Joe Mullins, Flagler, served as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners, focusing on broadband expansion, fiscal responsibility, mental health funding, disaster recovery, and workforce housing. He also contributed at the national level through broadband initiatives that supported rural communities.

Mark Adams is the founder and president of California Receivership Group (CRG), a company that has been revitalizing distressed properties for over 25 years. With a deep commitment to transforming unsafe and neglected buildings, he and his team have rehabilitated 415 properties across California, Tennessee, and Texas, overseeing $62.5 million in rehab loans, all repaid. CRG specializes in receivership, a legal process that allows courts to take control of distressed properties to address critical safety concerns, code violations, and neglect. Adams has utilized this legal tool to tackle various challenging property issues, including fire damage, hoarding, abandoned homes, and contamination from hazardous materials. Through receivership, he and his team can secure, clean up, and rehabilitate these properties, returning them to productive use. In 2019, he launched Texas Receivership Group (TxRG) and Tennessee Receivership Group (TRG), extending the firm’s reach to new communities in need. TxRG has secured two appointments in Dallas, while TRG recently completed its 36th property in Memphis. These expansions reflect his determination to share his expertise with other cities, helping them solve their property problems and restore neighborhoods.

As a co-founder of the Vacant Property Receivership Consortium (VPRC), a nonprofit organization, he has helped promote receivership as an effective tool for revitalizing vacant and distressed properties. Receiver Mark Adams’ expertise in receivership also gained attention following the 2020 Los Angeles wildfires. After the disaster, he was invited to write an article for Receivership News, a publication of the California Receivers Forum. His article discussed how receivership can be essential in recovering fire-damaged properties. He emphasized the importance of receivership in securing these properties, preventing further damage, and initiating rehabilitation, allowing communities to recover more quickly and safely.

Adams’ journey in the receivership field began in 1999 when he became the first court-appointed receiver under California’s Health and Safety Code. His first case involved remediating unsafe conditions at a 66-unit apartment complex, marking the start of his long and successful career. Since then, he has worked on various properties, including residential buildings, hotels, and commercial spaces, always restoring them to safe, livable conditions.

Bharat Raj Thukral is an architect, industrial designer, worldbuilder, and founder of Dasein Lab, a multidisciplinary worldbuilding studio working across architecture, material research, circular systems, ecological futures, and experimental arts. He graduated in Architecture from CEPT University, Ahmedabad, and has professional training experience from Japan, having worked with Shigeru Ban Architects and Meglab, Tokyo. He has also been part of the Healthy Materials Lab programme at Parsons School of Design, New York, where his interests in healthy materials, climate-responsive design, and circular construction systems deepened.

Bharat’s practice bridges speculative imagination with real-world material and ecological urgencies. He is the recipient of the Saint-Gobain Transparence Grant for DebrisCrete, a hyper-local material solution developed using construction and demolition waste and agricultural residues. He also received the Nirmal Dhingra Trust Scholarship for his bamboo joinery innovation, developed through his research on assembly-based temporary structures. Through Dasein Lab, he is developing studio frameworks that connect CLI-FI worldbuilding, speculative infrastructures, biomimicry, vernacular knowledge systems, and circular material practices into tangible design propositions for climate-resilient futures.

As a land developer in downtown Des Moines and throughout the Midwest, Robert has received awards for home design, interior design, and Builder of the Year. His achievements include innovation in real estate technology, with a home package delivery and drone delivery system patent. He has further worked on developing a transaction demand exchange intellectual property patent for an AI and Crypto application in financial exchanges. These projects reflect his interest in combining real estate with technology and his dedication to supporting SMBs.

He was born in London, England, and attended Rugby Boarding School before studying real estate management and economics in Oxford and London. Even before becoming an American citizen, he started his first company, remodeling and leasing flats in London and Brighton. After moving to the United States, he built real estate interests across Iowa, Colorado, Florida, and Minnesota. His fascination with real estate was strongly tied to his family history, as many men in his family were masons who contributed to the rebuilding of London after World War 2.

Robert’s interest in real estate began in childhood while traveling with his grandfather to job sites, where he witnessed the details of home building. His appreciation for interiors grew through his work in the family business, Orton Fine Arts and Antiques. From the age of 14, and throughout his university years, he gained valuable experience with commercial property specialists. After relocating to the U.S., he expanded his business network by forming connections in Scottsdale, AZ, and New York.

In 2010, Robert Orton founded Orton Homes, a custom and spec home developer headquartered in Iowa to serve the Midwest. Over time, his business ventures grew to include Orton Development Company, specializing in land development for residential and commercial projects, RT Development, a property holding company, and Nexus, a commercial construction company. He also built a strong presence in the rental market with Go Rental Team, LLC, focusing on homes and multifamily properties.

His success is closely tied to his proprietary land development and construction process. He works directly with homeowners at every stage, from lot selection and financing to customization and final construction. His approach ensures that each home reflects its owners' needs and style. His commercial projects also follow the same careful process, designed to combine function with interiors suited to traditional and modern preferences.

Orton has led the development of residential communities across Iowa, including Ashley Acres, Creekview Estates, Gladbury Park, and Scenic Ridge. These neighborhoods feature ranch-style and two- or three-bedroom homes with gourmet kitchens, fireplaces, spacious bathrooms, and three-car garages. His teams are recognized as specialists in starter homes and luxury residences, contributing to his reputation as a leading home builder.

Community service has always been an essential part of his life. He has contributed to homeless shelters, children’s health organizations, and support services for victims of trauma or violence. He also volunteers with church groups and has assisted in interventions for people facing serious mental health challenges. His collaboration with grassroots organizations and medical professionals demonstrates his ongoing commitment to those in need.

Outside of business, Robert is a world traveler and Rugby enthusiast. He played the sport during college and captained an unbeaten team. In his youth, he also enjoyed hockey and cricket. Today, he often travels with his family on skiing trips to mountain destinations worldwide. His time abroad has given him opportunities to enjoy different cultures and cuisines. At home, he spends time with his daughters, visiting theaters and museums, and going on yearly hunting trips.
