Vraj Mukeshbhai Patel is a Staff Systems Engineer with more than nine years of experience designing autonomous systems and Physical AI solutions for safety-critical applications. His expertise spans autonomous vehicles, humanoid robotics, connected systems, and IoT platforms, with a strong focus on integrating perception, autonomy, and control into scalable real-world systems. Throughout his career, he has developed advanced system architectures that support intelligent mobility and human-machine interaction while meeting stringent safety and performance requirements.
Currently, Vraj serves as a Staff Systems Engineer at Apptronik, where he contributes to the development of next-generation Physical AI for humanoid robots. In this role, he leads autonomy system architecture by integrating perception, SLAM, navigation, locomotion, and teleoperation into unified control frameworks. He also drives sensor architecture decisions, develops system-level safety and reliability frameworks, leverages System Modeling, NVIDIA’s tool chain for simulation-based validation, and collaborates with cross-functional teams spanning AI, controls, hardware, product, and simulation engineering.
Prior to Apptronik, Vraj was a Senior Systems Engineer at May Mobility, where he played a key role in the development of autonomous mobility technologies. He led initiatives involving Autonomous Driving Kit (ADK) sensor architecture, auto-incident detection, in-cabin monitoring, and safety-critical autonomous driving capabilities for commercial driverless ride-sharing services. His responsibilities included systems engineering, requirements management, hazard analysis, verification and validation planning, and ensuring compliance with industry standards such as ISO 26262 and ASPICE while supporting the scalable deployment of autonomous vehicle platforms.
Earlier in his career, Vraj held engineering and product leadership roles at Luxoft, KPIT Technologies, Millennium Software, Skypersonic, and ZF TRW. Across these positions, he contributed to autonomous driving, digital cockpit connectivity, connected vehicle platforms, telematics, cloud-based IoT solutions, UAV systems, ADAS technologies, multi-camera vision systems, V2X applications, and systems engineering for automotive safety. His work consistently involved translating complex customer requirements into system architectures, managing traceability across the product lifecycle, and supporting cross-functional engineering teams in delivering high-quality products.
Vraj possesses extensive expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), systems architecture, autonomous systems, sensor fusion, computer vision, SLAM, robotics, machine learning, and functional safety. He is proficient with industry-standard tools and platforms including JAMA Connect, NVIDIA Isaac Sim, MATLAB, AWS, Python, DOORS, Git, and Applied Intuition. Dionisio Nunes is the founder of Jila.ai, a water reliability platform using Azure, IoT and AI to help households and organizations monitor water tanks, predict shortages and coordinate refills in environments with intermittent infrastructure.

His career has followed a path through applied AI. He started by working on AI for electric toothbrushes, then moved into computer vision at Bosch, where he worked on AI for security cameras used to help protect military bases, airports and other critical infrastructure. He later worked on AI for architectural visualization, helping architects use vision and language models to make their projects stand out without relying on complex creative tooling.

With Jila.ai, Dionisio is now applying that experience to water access: combining connected devices, cloud architecture, time-series prediction and practical product design for markets where connectivity, power, digital literacy and infrastructure cannot be taken for granted. Bill helps organizations move beyond treating risk as a compliance exercise and instead weave it into how they conduct business. His work focuses on bridging the divide between business and technology so professionals across the enterprise can design, understand, and verify what is actually true.

Bill’s career sits at the intersection of business execution, engineering precision, and governance systems. He began his professional life building and operating complex systems and soon realized that the most significant failures were not technological at all. They were communication failures. Risk, compliance, and audit professionals speak one language. Engineers speak another. The result is friction, delay, and mutual misunderstanding. Rather than accept this divide as inevitable, Bill set out to build a bridge across it.

He calls that bridge Governance Engineering, the application of engineering principles to the systems of uncertainty and accountability that guide modern decisions. In his view, one can design governance as a system, verify it, and continuously improve it, just as with software. Policies become executable specifications, and assurance procedures become repeatable functions. This approach not only makes governance more efficient but also makes it verifiable.

Bill first brought this philosophy to a global audience as co-author of Investments Unlimited (IT Revolution, 2022). The novel reframes how IT organizations approach compliance in the era of DevOps, illustrating how financial institutions can transform regulation from a bottleneck into a catalyst for innovation. The book became a touchstone for technical leaders seeking to move audit and risk from reactive oversight to proactive design.

He continued to explore the intersection of human and digital systems through articles such as “Digital Mirror: Reflecting Changes in GRC with Digital Twins” and “AI-Enabled Digital Twins: Revolutionizing Efficiency for Modern Enterprises” (IT Revolution). In this work, Bill probes more profound questions about technology and trust. His writing bridges philosophy and practice, showing how risk management in the age of AI depends on clarity rather than control.

As a practitioner, Bill has turned these ideas into tangible methods, technology, and tools. He is the creator of NAPE (Not Another Policy Engine), an open-source system that transforms static policy statements into executable assurance logic. With Attestify, he extends that logic into a living ecosystem that enables what he calls Autonomous Assurance, the ability for organizations to continuously prove they are operating as intended, within defined risk tolerances. Together, these projects reflect his conviction that risk and audit should not slow business down, but accelerate it by making trust measurable.
