Ysis Tarter is a staff data engineer at Absci, where deep learning AI and synthetic biology are harnessed to translate ideas into drugs. She leads the development of data platforms and pipelines for high-throughput biological data, as well as scientific tools for data analysis. Ysis is also the co-tech lead of the Bay Area chapter of Black Girls Code and teaches data visualization and analytics. She has lectured at several institutions, including Columbia, Princeton, and UC Berkeley. Ysis holds an MS in Applied Biomedical Engineering from Johns Hopkins University and a BS in Computer Science from Stanford University where she specialized in biocomputation. She has published peer-reviewed articles in the fields of scalable neuroscience and synthetic biological design.

Laura Maria Andrade de Oliveira

Dr Laura Oliveira, PhD in Microbiology, is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro by the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network (IVVN) Fellowship. Dr Laura has been involved in research projects focused on the characterization of gram-positive cocci, especially Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus agalactiae, and Staphylococcus aureus, recovered from human and animal sources, regarding capsular typing, molecular typing, antimicrobial resistance and virulence potential. She has experience in the field of microbiology, with emphasis on bacteriology and molecular epidemiology, and expertise in several molecular biology methods, including genome sequencing, multi-locus sequence typing, and matrix assisted laser desorption ionisation time-of-flight mass spectroscopy (MALDI-TOF MS) for identification and strain-typing of microbial pathogens. The main goal of her research is to improve the diagnosis and the control and preventive measures of infectious diseases in the human and veterinary medicine settings. Dr Laura has been awarded with 10 national and international awards, being the most important the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network (IVVN) Fellowship for women postdoctoral researchers from low-and-middle income countries (LMICs). Dr Laura has served as a volunteer for the American Society for Microbiology since 2017. She is former president of ASM International Student Chapter at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (2017-2019), ASM Young Ambassador of Science to Brazil (202-2022), and Chair of the ASM Young Leaders Circle (2020-2021). She has also been involved in science communication and outreach initiatives in Brazil, including the science communication project DivulgaMicro and the Brazilian editions of Pint of Science and Soapbox Science festivals, and the Smithsonian’s exhibit Outbreak: Epidemics in a Connected World DiY (Do-It-Yourself).

Birgit Penzenstadler is an Associate Professor at the joint Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology and Gothenburg University, Sweden, as well as an Adjunct Professor at the Lappeenranta University of Technology, Finland.
She holds a PhD in Software Engineering from the Technical University of Munich, Germany, and is an Embodied Mindfulness Coach and a 500-RYT yoga teacher with special certification in breathwork.
She has been investigating well-being (www.twinkleflip.com), resilience, and sustainability from a point of view of software engineering during the past ten years, working on a body of knowledge and concepts of how to support sustainability from within RE. Part of these efforts are documented with the Karlskrona Alliance that published a body of work including the Karlskrona Manifesto (see also http://www.sustainabilitydesign.org).
She included the topic into the curriculum of her departments at various universities along the way (Technical University of Munich, University of California, Irvine, California State University Long Beach, Chalmers Technical University) and established industrial collaborations for case studies.
